Have you tried the new "Street View" feature on Google Maps? I just had an idea- you can use it to pretend you are driving past the "Roadside America" attractions on US Route 1 and other roads, like this one. Keep an eye out for Muffler Man!

In Massachusetts, on the section of Route 1 that runs from Saugus through Peabody, also known as the old Newburyport Turnpike, many of the kitschy old landmarks can still be found. As a kid, when we were driving to the beach, I could measure our progress as we passed milestones like "The Ship" (which used to be a restaurant), the orange dinosaur at the mini-golf/batting cages, and the plastic cows at Hilltop Steakhouse.
