First snowfall of the season
photo

From the "Incredibly Strange Coincidence" Department:

The first snowfall of the season in northern Virginia/MD/DC took place on Dec 4/5, 2007 which was the night of Susan's birthday. This has happened four of the last five years in a row.

That would be a "strange coincidence" by itself, but I also want to mention that the last snowfall of the previous winter season took place in April, during spring break, on Saturday April 7, which was Easter weekend, and also happened to be the day before my birthday. So the first and last snowfalls both occurred on the birthday of someone in our family.

Another time it snowed on my birthday, on April 8, 2000, was the night of my 40th birthday party held at the restaurant on the GW Parkway near National Airport that used to be called "Potowmack Landing" but is now under new ownership. It is attached to the sailing marina that is on the little inlet where Four Mile Run empties out into the Potomac River south of the airport but north of Old Town Alexandria. There was a parade of Lighted Boats on the Potomac that night, which they do every year, as we saw from the Chart House in Old Town the previous year. We have video of that night, taken by our neighbor William, which showed it raining most of the night, and by morning we woke up to about an inch of snow.

Almost the exact same scenario played itself out in 2007, except that we were in Williamsburg at the time for spring break, and had to cancel our planned trip to Jamestown that morning. Instead we went to Jamestown again for Memorial Day, and Alexandra got to go again this fall with her fourth grade class on a field trip because they are studying Virginia history this year.

The picture above was not taken on Dec 4 or April 7, but during another trip to a timeshare resort during spring break- can you guess "Where Am I?"
