Whole towns were underwater already by mid-day...
... I hope Mike Seidel makes it back to the mainland. Its daylight, the rains are not that bad, but the storm surge already flooded the coastal towns. - WHY? Astronomical HIGH TIDES combined with the early surge reached a peak at around 3 PM local time. So from 10 AM to 3 PM, the tide was coming in, in ADDITION to the storm surge. But this is just the beginning! Between now and midnight, the tide will be going out, but it won't do much against the wind that will increase to tropical storm force, coming in directly off the water, beginning at night fall. According to Mike Seidel, high tide happens again at 3 AM, so that means the most dangerous time is from midnight to 4 AM, although it won't be a picnic after that either. So take what you are seeing now at today's high tide while the storn is 100 miles away, and add another 10-20 feet to the height of the water, and bring those 30 foot waves right in to the place where Mike Seidel was standing!
