Truman Evers Johnson, 89, of Scherr, WV, died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born January 02, 1908, at Scherr, he was the son of the late Albert and Florence (Hamstead) Johnson. He was also preceded in death by one great-grandson, Cody DeMoss; two brothers, Ross and Ellis Johnson; one sister, Elma Martin; and two half brothers, Otis and Taylor Johnson.

Mr. Johnson attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Dayton, Virginia. He worked for B&O Railroad in Keyser and was a farmer. He did piano tuning for 40 years and retired in 1973 from the Grant county Board of Education where he was a school bus driver for 13 years. He was a member of the Oak dale Church of the Brethren at Scherr.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Bernice L. (Likin) Johnson, whom he married June 14, 1934; two sons, Jared Johnson of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Pastor Elwood Johnson of McAlisterville, PA; three daughters, Zenella R. Radford of Catharpin, Virginia, Loreen L. May of Bridgewater, Virginia and Freeda W. Brown of New Creek; one sister, Velma Bane of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Monday afternoon at the Oak Dale Church of the Brethren with Pastor Heath Fervida, the Rev. Harold Garber and Abraham Evans officiating. Interment was in Thrush Cemetery at Antioch, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Dale Church of the Brethren Men�s Fellowship or pastoral fund.

Arrangements were under the directions of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. � Joyce Faye Judy, 49, of 24 N. Main St., Petersburg, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home.

Born Nov. 1, 1952, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of Mervin A. and Georgia Mae (Thorne) Stump of Dorcas. She was preceded in death by one niece, Ginger Alt; and one great nephew, Zac Alston Paul Alt. Joyce was salutatorian of Petersburg High School Class of 1970 and a 1974 graduate of West Virginia University School of Medical Technology. She was employed at the Grant Memorial Hospital Laboratory for 27 years. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg, where she served as treasurer and organist. She was also active in the Women�s Bible Circle.

Surviving her are her parents, Mervin A. and Georgia Mae (Thorne) Stump, Dorcas; her husband, Steven C. Judy; one daughter, Emily C. Judy, Petersburg; one son, Darin C. Judy, Petersburg; four sisters, Phyllis Alt, Dorcas, Janie Corley, Elkins, Denise Ours, Charlottesville, Va., and Nancy Rotruck, Petersburg; and was the daughter-in-law of Francis L. and Joan Judy, Ruskin, Fla. Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Petersburg First Baptist Church, Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry M. Cantu and Pastor Fred Soltow officiating.

Burial will be in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Mrs. Oreta G. Jones, 84, formerly of Mount Storm, died April 23,2002 at the home of her daughter in Keyser.

Born July 27, 1917, in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lana (Helmick) Moreland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Olin Jones.

She is survived by one son, William Jones of Keyser; one daughter, Emma Jean Munsie of Keyser; two sisters, Mary Cosner of Mount Storm and Naomi Amtower of New Creek; four grandchildren, Mark Jones, Debbie Taylor and Rhonda Flanagan, all of Keyser and James Jones of Stephen City, Va. and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were April 26, at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, with interment in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Bismarck.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser chapel.

Mrs. Dorothy (Masto) Jones, 75, of Bridgeport, died Dec. 15, 2001  at United Hospital Center, following an extended illness.

Born July 28, 1926, at Dawmont, she was the daughter of the late George Anna (Biasi) Masto.

She is survived by her husband, David L. Jones Jr., whom she married Nov. 28, 1946; one son, David L. Jones III of Petersburg; one daughter, Debra (Jones) Casto of Quiet Dell; one sister, Mary Marsh of Bridgeport; four brothers, Mike Mesto of Killeen, Texas, Frank Masto of Bradenton, Fla., David Masto and the Rev. George Mesto, both of Clarksburg; five grandchildren, Kelley Jones of Chesapeake, Va., Meredith Adkins of Petersburg, Matthew Jones and Christopher Casto, both of Morgantown, and Marijke (Casto) Smith of Rockville, Md.

Memorial services were Dec. 22, at the Word of Life Assembly of God Church.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Burnside Funeral Home, Bridgeport.

Mrs. Alyce Kathryn Jones, 97, of Baker, died Nov. 7, 2001  at E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker.

Born Sept. 2, 1904, in Elmira, N.Y., she was the daughter of late John Fitzgerald and Grace Lucky Kennedy. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Harold H. Horton in 1945 and Henry Jones in 1985.

She is survived by three sons, Harold H. Horton of Clearwater, Fla., Richard E. Horton of Fredericksburg, Va. and William "Bill" Horton of Star Tannery, Va.; five daughters, Helen Kinney of Florida, Nancy Landon of Tecumsuh, Mich., Dora Manwaring of Elmira, Annetta Sites of Petersburg and Shirley Grober of Indian Springs, Nev.; 66 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 58 great-great-grandchildren and six great-great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McKee Funeral Home, Baker.

Edward Charles Jones, 79, of Maysville and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Sept. 10, 2001  in Fallings Water.

Born Oct. 22, 1921, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Jason E. Jones and Addie (Wilhide) Meushaw. He was also preceded in death July 14, 1995 by his first wife, Eva M. (Cordell) Jones, whom he married May 28, 1942.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary J. (Monn) Hadley Jones, whom he married Sept. 14, 1996; one son, Charles E. Jones of Baltimore; three daughters, Karen S. Faulls of Abingdon, Md., Charlene E. Haupt of Bel Air, Md., Kathleen S. Lumsden of Baltimore; one stepdaughter, Mary Toms of Waynesboro; one stepson, Clarence L. Hadley of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; one sister, Lorraine Cammerate of Edgewood, Md.; one half sister, Vivian Gibble of Shade Gap, Pa.; two half brothers, Glenn Jones of Washington, D.C., anad Carl Jones of Chambersburg, Pa.; stepmother Rose Jones of Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sept. 13, at the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home chapel, Waynesboro. Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 14, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Forest Hill, Md.

Dorothy Ann Alt Judy, 87, Sandston, VA, and formerly of Upper Tract, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Ashland, VA, where she had lived since June.

Mrs. Judy was born Feb. 21, 1913, in Petersburg and was a daughter of the late Martin G. and Hannah Rebecca Susan Borror Alt.

She had lived with her daughter, Norma Brown, in Sandston, VA, for the past five years. She was a member of Brushy Run Church of God in Upper Tract.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Jesse L. Judy; three sons, Berlan Judy, Moorefield, Elden Judy, Petersburg, and L. Paul Judy, Upper Tract; three daughters, Norma Brown, Sandston, VA, Brenda Cook, Upper Tract, and Neva Myers, Culpeper, VA; two step-daughters, Freda Alt, Baltimore, MD, and Elaine Shreve, Upper Tract; a sister, Dora Yokum, Landes; 11 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Revs. Bruce Cosner and Joseph Eversole conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Brushy Run Church of God. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or a charity of choice.

Arrangements were by the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

S. Emmett Jones, 87, of Elk Garden, died Thursday, June 25, 2002, at his residence.

Born May 02, 1915, in Maysville WV, he was the son of the late Jacob and Gracie (Hawk) Jones.  Emmett was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Wayne Jones, Jr. and Matthew Schroeder, and three brothers, Lester Jones, Virgil Jones and Floyd Jones.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Elsie Pauline (Hilkey) Jones; one daughter; Linda Schroeder and husband Richard of Wilmington, Delaware; two sons, John Jones and wife Caron, and Wayne Jones and wife Brenda, all of Elk Garden: one brother; Alvin Jones of Elk Garden; two sisters, Alma Weimer of Gorman, Maryland and Annie Layman of Springfield, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Emmett was a farmer all of his life and also owned Jones Service station.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller, Maryland on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church, Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.

Interment will be in the Jones Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Edith Johnson, 86, of Cumberland, Maryland, died Monday February 08, 1999 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born September 14, 1912, at Jordan Run, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lelia (Turner) Berg.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey �Duke� Johnson; three brothers; Rodney, Clarence and Hershel Berg; and three sisters, Delphia  M. Berg, Naomi E. Nesselrodt and Stella B. Hanlin.  She was the last member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of the Cumberland Church of God.

Surviving are one son, Dorsey Johnson Jr. of Westminster, Maryland; three daughters, Bonnie M. Twigg of Cumberland, Maryland, Maysel R. Clites of Beans Cove, PA, and Katherine J. Nesbitt of Raleigh N.C.; seven grandchildren, Shawn C. Twigg, Stephen R. Twigg, Cheryl L. VanHorn and Kimberley S. Wainscott of Cumberland, Brian R. Nesbitt of Denver, Colorado, Eric R. Johnson of Baltimore and Michele R. Ankney of Berlin, PA; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday morning at the Upchurch Funeral Home chapel, Cumberland, with the Rev. David Price officiating.  Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.
