Clarice George 70 of Rt. I box 204 Keyser, WV died Tuesday November 18, 1997 at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born August 1, 1927, Martin WV, she was a daughter of the late Charles Lemuel and Lorena Glenn (Smith) Rotruck. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Quinton and Kermit Rotruck; and three grandchildren; Frederick Fink, Mary Louise Walker and Mona Lisa George.

Mrs. George was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington, WV

Surviving is her husband of 53 years, Ezra P. George; four sons, Alonzo George and wife Robin, Roscoe George and wife Judy, Darrell George and wife Arbutus, all of Keyser, and David George of Burlington, four daughters, Wanda Poland, Romney WV, Darlene Walker and husband Dan, Burlington, Regina Norris, Keyser and Loretta Roderick and husband D. J., Kitzmiller, Maryland; one brother, Maynard Rotruck, Keyser, four sisters, Maxine Purtlebaugh, Winchester, Virginia, Dorothy Arnold, Keyser, Georgia "June" Huffman, Cumberland, Maryland and Eilene "Peggy" Kinn, Virginia Beach, Virginia; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted in the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Samuel Biser officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, in Keyser.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Dennis M. George, 82 of Rig, died Tuesday, February 09, 1999 at his home.

Born May 13, 1916, at Martin, WV, he was the son of the late John and Martha (O�Brien) George.

He is survived by his wife, Burnell (Riggleman) George; one son, Winfred "Wimp" George of Rig, WV; two daughters, Karen Combs of Rig and Marsha Shockey of Moorefield; one brother, Ezra George of Burlington, WV; four sisters, Gertie Kuykendall of Baltimore; Ina George and Bessie Koontz, both of Moorefield, and Retha George of Petersburg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday morning at the Fraley Funeral Home chapel, Moorefield, with the Rev. Lynn Rohrbaugh officiating. Interment was in the Newhouse Cemetery at Rig, WV

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. � After answering God's call to the ministry many years ago, the
Rev. Donald W. Goldizen of Falling Waters, answered God's call to Heaven on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at his residence.

Born at Cabins, he was a son of the late Brady Enoch and Lula (Ours) Goldizen.

The Rev. Goldizen graduated from Petersburg High School, Petersburg, and then graduated with honors from Southwestern University of the Assemblies of God at Waxahachie, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. Over the course of 29 years in the ministry, he pastored at four different churches, Forreston, Texas, Ewing, Va., Bluefield,Va., and Keyser. Until his home going, the Rev. Goldizen was providing part-time and interim pastorship in the Hagerstown, Md., area. He was an excellent example of a man whose greatest desire was to do God's will and live by the practical teachings of Jesus Christ. He leaves a rich, Christ-like heritage to his children, their spouses and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Nadine (Powers) Goldizen; one son, Bryan Goldizen and wife Tina, Culpeper, Va.; two daughters, Paige Miller and husband Wayne Jr., Keyser, and Krista Campbell and husband Scott, Sutherland, Va.; one brother, Pastor Brady Goldizen, Cabins; two sisters, Jean Tadlock and husband Jim, who was the Rev. Goldizen's fishing buddy, Frederick, JoAnn Cooper and husband Eddie, Harman; and five grandchildren, Shanea and Shalynn Goldizen, Brittney and Briana Miller and Madison Campbell.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Cabins Assembly of God Church, Cabins, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Dr. H. Robert Rhoden, District Superintendent of the Potomac District, Assemblies of God and the Rev. Gordon Hensley officiating.

The body will be taken to the church for visitation from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.

Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Robert Bernard "Chuck" Goldizen, 83, of HC 80, Box 151, Maysville, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.

Born on June 9, 1918, in Jordan Run, he was the son of the late Aaron and Lura (Barger) Goldizen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Irene (Feaster) Goldizen on Nov. 30, 1988; one brother, Arlie Goldizen; and two sisters, Goldie Heavner and Lucy Barger.

Mr. Goldizen retired from Old Allegheny Mining, Mt. Storm. He was a member of the Jordan Run Union Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Kay Hedrick and husband Harman of Maysville; three sons, Larry Robert Goldizen and wife Donna of Cumberland, Md., Steve George Goldizen of Maysville, and Terry Allen Goldizen and wife Diane of Maysville; two sisters, Rose Feaster of Maysville, and Rhoda Warner of Petersburg; one brother, Arthur Goldizen of Cabins; six grandchildren, Teresa Harper, Amy Vance, Charlotte Brown, Stephanie Sharpless, Kimberly Goldizen and Robert A. Goldizen; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Jordan Run Union Baptist Church, Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Donaldson officiating.

Sampson Goldizen, 87, of Marlinton, died April 16,2002 at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 4, 1915, in Grant County, he was the son of the late Albert Jeff and Esta (Collins) Goldizen. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Gladys Rebecca (Hesse) Goldizen and Helen Violet (Sharp) Goldizen.

He is survived by six sons, Donald C. Goldizen of Beverly, Robert D. Goldizen, James D. Goldizen, Fred G. Goldizen, Jack H. Goldizen and Paul R. Goldizen, all of Marlinton; one daughter, Shirley L. Biller of Finksburg, Md.; one brother, Kelly Goldizen of Petersburg; two sisters, Hilda Emory of Pittsburgh and Lucy Wentling of Cumberland, Md.; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were April 19, at the Marlinton Church of God, with interment in Cochran Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton.

Earl A. Groves, 83, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home.

Born on May 27, 1917, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Roy and Gracie May (Judy) Groves. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Neva E. (Ours) Groves on May 25, 2000; two sisters.

Mr. Groves was a lifelong farmer and participanted in local, state and national livestock activities.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty L. Groves of Petersburg, Helen L. Hedrick of Petersburg, and Ellen I. Kirby of Petersburg; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; one sister, Kathleen Kile of Cabins; and a number of nieces and nephews, who thought of him as Pap, including a nephew who lived with the Groves family, Conway C. Ours Jr.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Grove Street United Methodist Church, Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rebecca L. Bennett, the Rev. Stanley Kile and the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.

Burial will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Neva E. (Ours) Groves, 84, of Petersburg, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born on June 3, 1915, in Rough Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Hugh Z. and Martha Rebecca (Bergdoll) Ours.

Mrs. Groves and her husband, Earl, were life-time farmers in Grant County. She previously served on the Petersburg Southern States Womens Advisory Committee and served as trustee of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, Maysville, W.Va.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Earl A. Groves of Petersburg; three daughters, Betty L. Groves of Petersburg, Helen L. Hedrick of Petersburg, Ellen I. Kirby of Petersburg; two brothers, Virgil A. Ours of Rio W.Va., Conway C. Ours of Upper Tract, W.Va.; two grandsons, Roy A. Hedrick and Edward E. Kirby; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Ashford Hedrick and Marc Bauer Hedrick.

Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Pastor Rebecca L. Bennett and the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va.

Nellie M. Grove, 90, of 421 Hammond St., Westernport, Maryland, died Monday, May 24,1999, at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Maryland.

Born March 09, 1909, in Petersburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late Lee Lease and Eleanor (Snyder) Lease Bosley Shoemaker. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Charles Bosley; a brother, Carl Bosley ; and a sister, Lyla Server.

Mrs. Grove formerly worked at the Celanese Fibers Corporation, was a former manager of the Eagles Club in Piedmont, WV and also worked at the Potomac Club in Westernport. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Westernport, where she was a member of the Altar Guild.

Surviving are a son, Donald L. Grove and wife Dot, Westernport; three brothers, Arno Bosley and Richard Bosley, both of Roy, Utah, "Curly" Clyde Bosley, St. Louis, MO.; a sister Annabelle Wilkes, Westernport; two grandchildren, Ronald L. Grove and wife Bev, and David A. Grove and wife Kathleen, all of Westernport; six great-grandchildren, Christie Kimble, Shawn Vinci, Jeff Grove, Michelle Grove, Aden Grove, Danielle Grove; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home Chapel, Westernport, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Patrick Pierce officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Maryland.

Calvin Emerson Gillaspie, 75, of Rt. 1 box 107, Burlington, WV, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV.

Born July 25, 1922, in Williamsport, WV, he was the son of the late Isadore T. Gillaspie and Mary Susan (Bosley) Gillaspie. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty L. Rotruck; three brothers, Frank Gillaspie, Amos Gillaspie and Berlin Gillaspie; two sisters, Florence Carr and Irene Hottle, two grandchildren, David R. Gillaspie and Debra D. Gillaspie and one great-granddaughter, Lauren B. Fink.

Mr. Gillaspie was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served with the Seabee�s. He was a retired conductor for the B&O Railroad/Chessie System with 40 plus years of service. He was a hunter, fisherman and horseback rider and a life time member of Queens Point Memorial Post #6775 VFW, McCoole, Maryland.

Surviving are his wife, Viola E. (Thorne) Gillaspie; one daughter, Mary S. Gillaspie Fink, Keyser; three sons, Paul E. Gillaspie Sr., Burlington, Roger D. Gillaspie, Portland, Oregon, and James A. Gillaspie, Sr., a foster son, Homer Buler, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three foster grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Keyser, at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, with the Rev. James Williamson officiating.

At Mr. Gillaspie�s request, following visitation and funeral services, his body will be cremated and his remains scattered on the family farm. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7-9 and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Elwood Ervin Green, 64 of Winchester, Virginia and formerly of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at the home of his sister, Betty Green, Winchester.
Born January 08, 1935, in Mt. Storm, he was the son of the late Albert and Ethel (Kitzmiller) Green. He was also preceded in death my one sister, Flora Mae Green.

Mr. Green served in the U.S. Air Force and was a truck driver for Cheetah Transportation. Belpre, Ohio.  He was a member of the Mount Storm Presbyterian Church.

Besides his sister, he is survived by one stepson, Michael Hayes of Vienna; one brother, Jimmie Green of Winchester, one niece and two nephews.

Funeral services were Friday morning, at the Schaeffer funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Shelba Sisler officiating.  Interment was in Nethken Hill Cemetery, Elk Garden. 

Memorials may be made to Mount Storm Presbyterian Church of Mount Storm United Methodist Church.

Zetta Margaret (Weimer) Gaffney died on May 12, 2002, in Rochester, New York, at the age of 83.  She was a Catholic by faith and a former member of the Brick Church of the Brethren.

Born on October 12, 1918, at Streby, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Oscar J. and Charlotte �Lottie� (Evans) Weimer.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Bernard �buddy� Gaffney and her two brothers, Carl E. Weimer Sr. and J. Bruce Weimer, both of Maysville.

Mrs. Gaffney was a graduate of Petersburg High School and was a registered nurse who served in the U.S. Army in England during World War II. While in the service in Europe, she met and married her beloved husband who was also serving his country at the time.

After the war, Zetta moved with her husband in his hometown of Wattertown, N.Y, where she worked for more than 30 years.  Following retirement, Zetta and Buddy move to Ocala, Florida.  After the death of her husband, she moved to Rochester, N.Y., to live near her son, and his family.

Mrs. Gaffney is survived my her son, Thomas Gaffney and his wife, Roberta of 2 Asbury Street, Rochester, N.Y. 14620 and their sons, Justin and Matthew Gaffney.  She is also survived by her sister, Alberta Weimer Pearson of Jacksonville, N.C and numerous nieces and nephews.

Following a memorial service in Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Gaffney�s remains will be transported to Ocala, Florida, so that she can be laid to rest beside of her beloved husband Buddy. A graveside service will be held in Ocala at a future date.  Arrangements there are under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Parlor of Ocala.

Friends and family may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice in honor of Mrs. Gaffney.

Evelyn Rebecca Griffith, 80, of Winchester, Va., died Monday, Dec. 12, at Berryville.

Born Aug. 28, 1925, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Zella (Hartman) Keplinger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Griffith, whom she married Feb. 7, 1945; one sister, Sarah Keplinger; and one brother, Ray Keplinger.

She is survived by one daughter, Diana Davis of Winchester; one son, Danny Griffith of Stephens City, Va.; one brother, Harry Keplinger of Broadway, Va.; and 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Dec. 15, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Winchester, with interment in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Elva Lee Goldizen, 77, of Petersburg, died Oct. 31, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. She had been a resident of the Grant County Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 24, 1926 in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Simpson and Beulah (Feaster) Simpson.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry Allen Goldizen, Wayne K. Goldizen and Bill G. Goldizen, all of Petersburg; two daughters, Nancy Lee Ours of Petersburg and Donna Sue Carr of Maysville; two sisters, Mae A. Kisamore of Petersburg and Ireda Ours of Manassas, Va.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Nov. 3, at the Basagic Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with interment in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Mrs. Essie Pearl Goldizen, 94, of Cabins, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born April 11, 1902, at Streby, she was the daughter of the late Taylor and Louise (Nelson) Kessel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Goldizen, Feb 23, 1979; one daughter, Texie Rohrbaugh, June 15, 1993; two half sisters, Maude Sites and Blanche Kessel; three great-grandsons, Duane and Bradley Wolford and Rocky Bennett;one great-great-granddaughter, Amanda Bennett.

Mrs. Goldizen was a member of Cabins Assembly of God. She had been a resident of the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, since July 19, 1989. She was selected as Queen of Hearts in the year 1993 and Mother of the Year in 1996 at the home.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary C. Ours of Cabins and Grace M. Harper of Moorefield; one son-in-law, Ray Rohrbaugh of Cabins; nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, two step-great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nehphews.

Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at Cabins Assembly of God with the Rev. Stephen Landis officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Albert Jefferson "Jeff" Goldizen, 88, of Petersburg, died Monday, January 9, 1984, at his residence.

Born May 29, 1895 in Grant County, he was a son of the late George Goldizen and Sarah (Watts)Goldizen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Bennett) Goldizen, on Sept. 6, 1978.

He was a retired Forest Service worker and farmer.

Surviving are three sons, Kelly Goldizen, Petersburg; Sampson Goldizen, Marlington; and Albert Goldizen, Pittsburg, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. Heilda Emory, Pittsburg, Pa.; and Mrs. Lucy Wentling, Cumberland, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Riggleman, Petersburg; two brothers, Edward Goldizen,Maysville and Gabriel Goldizen, Moorefield; 25 Grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Schaeffer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joseph Eversole and Rev. Paul Donadlson officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Eunice A. Guthrie, 69, of Bayard, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 1984 at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.

Born Sept 10, 195 in Sago, she was a daughter of the late Sherman Reel and Mary (Tenny) Reel.

She was a registered nurse for the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland for the past 15 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Bayard High School and was a graduate of the Capitol City School of Nursing, Washington, D. C., in 1942. She was a member of the Bayard Homemakers Club and the Bayard Senior Citizens Club.

She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Guthrie, Sr.; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth A. Jones and Mrs. Kathleen M. Lower, both of Bayard; two sons, Robert F. Guthrie, Jr., Bayard and Lawrence C. Guthrie, Durbin; one sister, Mrs. Flossie Gortner, Bayard; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Tuesday afternoon by the Rev, Ray Rodehaver and the Rev. William Anderson. Interment was in Bayard Cemetery.

Mrs. Laura T. Grayson, 58, of 456 South Main Street, here, died Saturday February 24, 1979 at Potomac Valley Hospital.

Born in Falls, W.Va., she was a daughter of Mrs. Bessie (Berg) Tucker, of here, and the late Walter Tucker.

She and her husband operated Grayson's Store, here.  She was a member of Alkaire Chapter 10, Order of Eastern Star; First United Methodist Church of Keyser; past secretary of the Sorpotimists, graduate of Petersburg High School and Fairmont Secretarial School and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Besides her mother, she also is survived by her husband, Edgell L. Grayson and a daughter, Miss Kassandra Grayson, at home.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted tomorrow, 1 p.m., at the funeral home by the Rev. W. W. Harvey.  Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery.

Edgell L. Grayson, 65, of 456 South Main Street, died yesterday January 16, 1981 at his residence.

Born in Keyser, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Leona (Tettenburn) Grayson.  His wife, Laura T. (Tucker) Grayson, preceded him in death.

He was former owner-operator of Grayson Sport Store in Keyser for 35 years, a member of First United Methodist Church and Davis Lodge 51 AF&AM.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite bodies at Morgantown and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 662, Keyser.

Surviving is a daughter, Miss Kassandra Grayson, Morgantown.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m.       Services will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. W. W. Harvey officiating.  Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.

A native of Petersburg, he was a son of the late Oscar W. and Nora (Simmons) George.

He was a member of Moorefield VFW Post 9606.

Jacob M. Garber, 91, of Bridgewater, VA., died Wednesday, February 10, 1993, at Bridgewater Home, where he had been a resident for 18 months.

He was born August 29, 1901, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late P.I. and Lillie Cline Garber of Greenmount.

He was a graduate of Bridgewater Academy and attended Bridgewater College. He received his bachelor�s degree from Harrisonburg State Teachers College, now James Madison University, and a master�s degree from the University of North Carolina in high school administration.

Mr. Garber spent his entire life in public education, beginning as a principal in Augusta County and later becoming supervising principal in Shenandoah County and Charlotte County. Later he became division superintendent of Prince William County.

He was Virginia�s supervisor of vocational rehabilitation for 16 years until his retirement, supervising 24 counties in Western and Northern Virginia. Mr. Garber was on the staff of Bridgewater College for four years after moving to Bridgewater in 1969.

He was a lifelong deacon in the Church of the Brethren, a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years, assistant moderator of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, a Ruritan president and a Rotarian. He served on the Valley Program for Aging Services Board for six years, two of which he served as chairman.

Mr. Garber served on the first board of trustees of Bridgewater Home. He was instrumental in forming the Bridgewater Retirement Village Association and served as its first chairman. He lived in the retirement village for 32 years.

He was married twice. His first wife, Ruth Pence Garber, died November 16, 1983. On July 12, 1985, he married Zula Hamilton, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Richard Martin Garber of Harrisonburg; one sister, Elizabeth Garber Sites of Petersburg, two brothers, Clarence Garber of Harrisonburg, VA., and Cline Garber of Petersburg; one step-daughter, Martha Anne Kirby of Arlington, Va., two stepsons, Edward Herring of Asheville, NC and David Herring of Arlington; one grandson; and three step-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Saturday at the Montezuma Church of the Brethren with the Rev. James M. Beckwith officiating.

Richard L. Getz, 64, of Salisbury, Md., died Friday, January 31, 1992.

Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late David L. and Lettie Sites Getz.

Mr. Getz was a former member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He was retired from the Social Security Administration as a field representative after 32 years of service. He was a graduate of Berea College, Berea, Ky., and did graduate work from West Virginia University.

Surviving are his wife, Irene Getz; one son, Charles Getz, Fenwick Island, Md.; three brothers, Carol Getz, Jessup, Ga., Paul Getz, Cumberland, Md., and Ralph Getz, Scherr; three sisters, Eva Whiteley, Mission, Tex., Elsie Coyle, Baltimore, Md., and Mary Fresch, Gettysburg, Pa.; one aunt, Sara McDonald, Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury, with the Rev. Donald E. Bauer officiating.
