BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Ralph Clinton Alt Sr., 72, of Route 1, Box 174, Burlington, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at his residence.

Born Feb. 25, 1925, at Smoke Hole, he was a son of the late Lottie Mae (Alt) Reel.

Mr. Alt retired from Seneca Quarries. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the DAV.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph Alt and wife Shannon, and Wes Alt, all of Burlington; two daughters, Linda Dineen and husband Ralph, Little Falls, N.Y., and Connie Adams and husband Paul, Burlington; one stepdaughter, Cathy Riggleman and husband Carl, Burlington; one brother, Charles J. Reel, California; three sisters, Irene Berg and Ann Hesse, both of Maysville, and Louella Rodgers, Annadale, Va.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lyle Berg officiating.

At Mr. Alt's request, his body will be cremated.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, Burlington, WV 26710.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. � Myrtle E. (Schaeffer) Arbogast, 101, of Petersburg, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at the Grant County Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Oct. 28, 1996.

Born on June 13, 1899, in Bayard, she was the daughter of the late George Peyton and Zella Frances (Duling) Schaeffer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence O. Arbogast in 1976; two brothers, Forest P. and Owen S. Schaeffer; and three sisters, Piercy, Marguerite and Mae.

Myrtle graduated from Potomac State College, Keyser, in 1919. She and her father, George P. Schaeffer, operated the Hermitage Hotel in Petersburg from 1917-1932.

She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church since 1913. She was past Matron and a 60 years member of the Order of Eastern Star Moorefield Chapter 102.

Surviving are one sister, Daisy Peck of Warner Robins, Ga.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Eastern Star Moorefield Chapter 102 will conduct service on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at Main Street United Methodist Church, Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. John E. Wildman and the Rev. Donald Lockhart officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Memorials may be directed to either Grant County Nursing Home or Main Street United Methodist Church.

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Rebecca Dawn Aronhalt, 23, of Elk Garden, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born Sept. 26, 1973, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of Vernon J. and Norma (Close) Aronhalt.

Surviving are five brothers, Vernon Jr., Gary, Terry and Kevin, all of Elk Garden, and David Aronhalt, Keyser; four sisters, Debbie Sites and Kathy Parril, Keyser, Angela Aronhalt and Kay McRobie, Elk Garden.

The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Nethkin Hill Methodist Church, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Leslie Hipp officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery.

William K. Alt, Sr., 74, of 161 Maple Avenue, Keyser, died Saturday, February 21,1987 in Potomac Valley Hospital.

Born in Petersburg on July 18, 1912, he was a son of the late Eugene R. and Odessa May (Judy) Alt. He was preceded in death by one brother and one granddaughter.

A retired employee of the West Virginia State Store, Keyser, he was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church and LOO Moose 662.

Surviving are his widow, Catherine (Pratt) Alt, one son, William K. Alt, Jr., Freeport, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Judith Keen, Winchester, Va.; five brothers, Eugene Alt, Tulsa, Okla.; Grover Alt, Altoona, Pa.; Sam Alt and Norris Alt both of Keyser; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Sites and Mrs. Mildred Bergdoll, both of Petersburg and three grandchildren.

Services will be conducted in Keyser Presbyterian Church Tuesday (today) at 11 a.m. by the Rev. J. Andrew Gullick. Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens.

The Rotruck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eugene P. "Gene" Allen, 59, of Petersburg, died Saturday, February 15, 1986 at the home of his brother, Hugh B. Allen, of Cabins.

Born in Petersburg, Nov.24, 1926, he was a son of the late Hugh Allen and Addie V.(Biercamp) Allen.

He worked at the family business, Allen's Rexall Drug Store, until his father's death in 1965. He also operated The Music Shop, Petersburg from 1951 to 1958.

Mr. Allen is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dedirea Crites Allen; one brother, Hugh B. Allen, Cabins; two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Services were conducted at the funeral home chapel Monday by Merrill Coop. Interment was in the South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.

The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to Grant Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.

Leslie C. Amtower, 80, of Gaithersburg, Md., formerly of Laurel Dale, died April 13,2002 at his residence.

Born Dec. 11, 1921, at Laurel Dale, he was the son of the late Homer Ebert and Lucy Blanche (Liller) Amtower.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen (Kelly) Amtower, whom he married March 3, 1950; one daughter, Martha Perry of Herndon Va.; and two grandchildren, Michael Clark and Jennifer Clark, both of Arlington, Va.

A memorial service was conducted April 22, at the Epworth United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg, Md., with interment in the Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.

The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser chapel, was in charge of local arrangements.

Miss Sadie Flora Alt, 90, of Petersburg, died Dec. 18,2000 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born April 29, 1910, in Pansy, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Christena (Layton) Alt. She was the last member of her immediate family.

She is survived by one daughter, Flora Jean "Pudgy" (Alt) Kisamore of Petersburg, with whom she lived with; and one niece, Josephine Williams of Kissimee, Fla.

Funeral services were Dec. 22, at the Basagic Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with interment in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Cecil McKinney Arnold, 55, of Shepherdstown and formerly of Cabins, died Dec. 4,2000 at his residence.

Born Aug. 28, 1945, in Harrisonburg, Va., he was the son of Ollie Blanche (McKinney) Arnold of Petersburg and the late Justin Edward Arnold.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pamela C. "Pam" (Hill) Arnold; two sons, Andrew Arnold of Shepherdstown and J.J. Arnold of Santa Fe, N.M.; one sister, Charlotte Campbell of Goldsboro, N.C.; one brother, Douglas Arnold of Cabins; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial graveside services were Dec. 8, at the Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Eldon Henry Alt, 83, of Petersburg, died Monday, Oct. 16,2000 at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, where he had resided since June 21.

Born Aug. 12, 1917, in Landes, he was the son of the late Arthur Henry and Sarah Grace (Layton) Alt.

He is survived by Mabel E. (Ours) Alt of Petersburg, whom he married Sept. 11, 1943; two daughters, Grace E. Ratliff of Petersburg and Judy Ann Berg of Maysville; one sister, Arvella M. Kimble of Petersburg; one brother, Earl H. Alt of Petersburg; two half sisters, Pearl Breakiron of Uniontown, Pa. and Mary Brill of Petersburg; three half brothers, William A. Alt, Delmer J. Alt and Denver L. Alt, all of Petersburg; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 19, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with Interment in Ours Family Cemetery, Petersburg.

Bertha Rebecca Alexander, 88, of Upper Tract, died Oct. 17,2000  at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

Born Jan. 22, 1912, at Landes, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Whetzel) Hartman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gussa Alexander, whom she married Nov. 10, 1934 and died Aug. 17, 1991.

She is survived by six daughters, Treva M. Simmons, Bonnie F. Simmons, Opal G. Williams, Twila J. Walker, Lula K. Simmons and Linda E. Roberson, all of Franklin; three sons, Donald R. Alexander, Walter S. Alexander and Ralph I. Alexander, all of Upper Tract; three sisters, Ruth Gibbs of Franklin and Marie Cook and Thelma Harman, both of Harrisonburg, Va.; two brothers, Albert Hartman of Upper Tract and Earl Hartman of Dayton, Va.; 43 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were Oct. 21, at the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, with interment in the Alexander Family Cemetery near Mozer.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Luther P. "Pappy" Alt, 89, of Harrisonburg, Va., died Oct. 8,2000  at Steele's Adult Care Facility, Timberville, Va., following a stroke.

Born March 30, 1911, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late David and Jenny (Kimble) Alt. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Fannie (Garber) Alt, January 1955, whom he married in March 1933, and Evelyn (Neff) Alt, January 1992, whom he married in February 1965.

He is survived by one daughter, Dawn Shelton of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Darwin F. Alt of Manassas, Va. and Marlin P. Alt of New Market, Va.; two sisters, Nina Sabo and Dora Van Meter, both of Landes; two brothers, Raymond Alt of Landes and Arch Alt of Cumberland, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. Memorial services were Oct. 14, at the McMullen Funeral Home chapel, Harrisonburg.

Virgil Eston Alt, 78, of Petersburg, died May 29,2001 at Hampshire Health Care Center, Romney.

Born Nov. 18, 1922, in Pansy, he was the son of the late Jacob P. and Mary Ellen (VanMeter) Alt.

He is survived by two sisters, Stella Jane Alt of Petersburg, and Tressie Turner of Winchester, Va.; one niece, Jean Henshaw; and three nephews, Paul Turner, James Turner and Dewey Turner.

Funeral services were June 2, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg. Interment was in Alt Family Cemetery, Brushy Run.

Donald Edwin Alexander, 53, of Harrisonburg, Va., died March 13, 2001 at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Va., after becoming ill at work.

Born Feb. 9, 1948, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of Mary Hedrick Alexander of Harrisonburg and Edwin G. Alexander of Davis, Calif.

He is also survived by his wife, Margaret A. Alexander, whom he married June 6, 1980; three sons, Ronald P. Alexander, Jeffrey S. Alexander and Douglas A. Jones, all of Harrisonburg. He was the nephew of Martha and Arthur Alt and Elsie Hedrick, all of Petersburg and the late Lemont Hedrick.

Funeral services were March 17, at the Faith Bible Church in Harrisonburg, with interment at Rest Haven Cemetery, Harrisonburg.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home, Harrisonburg.

Archie W. Alt, 87, of Cumberland, Md., died Jan. 24,2001 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born March 3, 1913, at Landes, he was the son of the late David and Virginia (Kimble) Alt.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. (Borror) Alt, one son, C. Maynard Alt of Bedford, Pa.; two daughters, Judy Bird of Cumberland, and Kay Cline of Flintstone, Md.; one brother, Raymond C. Alt of Landes; two sisters, Dora Yokum and Nina Sabo, both of Landes; six grandchildren, Christopher Bird, Darrell Alt, Darla Semanek, Michelle Saeler, Kimberlee Beal and Shannon Cline; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 27, at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, with interment in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

Hazel N. Armentrout, 86 of 429 North Main Street, Keyser died Tuesday, October 18, 1994 at her residence.

Born July 21, 1908 in Martin, WV, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Cora L. (Michael) Armentrout.

She was a graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, and attended West Virginia University.

She was a retired Mineral County elementary school teacher about 38 years of teaching at Grassey Ridge, Springfield, Wiley Ford and Piedmont,

She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser, Retired Teachers Association; and was a member and past president of the Nootimers Homemakers, Keyser, WV.

Survivors include one sister, Rose L. Michael, Martin, three nieces; Connie Bishop, Augusta GA; Patsy Roberts, Martin, three great-nieces; Lois Almos, NM; Sheri Bishop Doenges, Fayetteville, NC; Capt. Teri Bishop, San Antonio, Texas, and one great-nephew, Jamie Dinteman, Way Cross, GA.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, today at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, WV.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Funeral Home by the Rev. Donald D. Coleman.

Interment will be in the Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser, WV

If desired, memorials contributions may be made to the Calvary United Methodist church.
