LOCAL NEWS:
Ed F. Shobe has fresh oysters in stock

Mr. D. C. Sites of Pansy was in to see us Saturday and brought a dollar.

Mr. S. P. Christian of Ronoke, Virginia representing Sharp and Dohmer was in town Wednesday.

Died at Keyser, Tuesday, Mrs. John Groves after many months of sickness of consumption.  The deceased was a sister to Mrs. Sarah Welton of our town. 

The plastering of Mr. McMuffin�s house is just completed and is a first class job in every respect, reflecting credit on the workman, Mr. W. H. Crigler.

While the boys at the Jno Babb School were engaged in a game of base ball last Friday, Melvin Babb let a bat fly out of his hand striking Lossie Tucker on the cheek, knocking him senseless.

Married, Wednesday morning at Moorefield, Mr. Abe Bergdoll and Miss _____Pollock.  The M. E. S. minister, officiating.  Mr. Bergdoll was originally of this county and is a splendid young man.  Our best wishes are extended. 

Rev. Hopkins preached at the Presbyterian Church Sunday morning and night.

Quite a crowd of our people took in the Elkins and Dayton meeting Davis Saturday night.  A special train was run.

Jno Coniff, of Wheeling is billed to deliver a free and unlimited silver address here Tuesday night.

H. Parsons and Jas Nugent will have a joint discussion on the political issues, at the Opera House Monday night Nov. 2nd at 8 o�clock.

The iron for the bridge over the Potomac is expected this week.

About twelve thousand people assembled on Tuesday night of last week at the Opera House to hear Hon. Geo. W. Atkinson, the next Governor of West Virginia.  The crowd was carefully estimated at Twelve thousand many were unable to gain admittance.

Voters should not forget the election is Tuesday November 3rd.  polls open at sun rise 6:30 A.M. and close at sun set 4:56 P.M.

J. B. Watson of Dobbin was in town last week on his way home from attending court at the county Capitol. 

MAYSVILLE PENCILINGS
John J. Ferguson has opened a photograph gallery in town and is doing good work.

F. M. Reynolds and L. J. Foreman addressed the M'kinley and Hobart club of Grant County last Friday night.

Court adjourned Saturday morning.

J. W. Scherr went to Canton on the McKinley excursion this week.

J. C. Watson and Michael Masteller, of the Watson Lumber Company, Barnum, W.Va has been looking after hands in this county several days, returning Friday.

Fuller May, who went from here to Indiana a few years ago, is visiting relatives in this community.

Daniel Gardner of Mineral is repairing Noah May�s saw mill.

Mr. M. E. Snyder formerly of this place has been visiting his parents near Arthur for some time returning to his Indiana home the last of the week.   

E. A. George and J. H. Hollen started to Cumberland first of the week.

F. H. Frye of Harmony Hall School was in town Saturday.

Died, Monday near this place, Mr. George Judy of typhoid fever.  He was one of our substantial citizens and just in the prime of live.

Ex Senator A. R. Campbell was here Tuesday on his rounds of speech making in Grant. He informs us that he has been in every county but two in the State that are usually conceded to be Democratic and that form a conservative poll of the vote it will go for McKinley and sound money.

State vs. Jno T. Peerce-misdemeanor- prosecution abated on account of death of defendant.

W. F. Harvey vs. Bayard Coal & Coke Co.  Assumpsit�s � continued

State vs. Robt Robeler Jr. � misdemeanor found guilty and fined $25. and costs.

State vs., Jno Martin misdemeanor, plead guilty-fined $5.00 and cost

PUBLIC SPEAKING:
On next Monday night Mr. L. J. Forman will address the voters at Brushy Run School House near Arthur, on the political issues of the day.  That he will deal with them in his usual plain and business like manner all can rest assured and should attend.  Come out!

MOOREFIELD NEWS:
Miss Lola Price went to Purgitsville last Friday to visit her uncle, Frank Allen for a short time.

Mr. Thomas Godlove of Grant, is working in the �Hardy Democrat office

Mr. B. Parsons of Bayard, is in the county this week campaigning.

Green Robinson is in our town this week and is circulating among his many friends.

Bob Brady of Romney brought the election tickets up first of the week.

Mr. George Fisher Monday gigged a carp weighing twenty pounds and about nineteen of smaller size.

A large number of teachers have been attending the second examination for teachers this and last week.

The sheriff of Rockingham County, Virginia is here with requisition papers for Samuel Halterman who is wanted there for robbery.

W. H. Shearer has just returned from a trip to the east.
