Community Outreach

Our chapter strives not only to reach individuals interested in stitching, we strive to reach everyone in our community. Part of our community outreach over the years has been donating food and money to local food banks. A portion of the money collected at our monthly chapter meetings is donated along with any individual donations made. Members also bring non perishable food items to the meetings that are donated.

A new community outreach project we have recently gotten involved in has been Habitat for Humanity. The local Houston affiliation of Habitat for Humanity kicked off a big campaign in April of 2002 to build 44 homes over the summer for Tropical Storm Allison victims. When our members heard about this, they wanted to do something special for the partner families receiving the homes. We contacted Habitat about stitching "Home Sweet Habitat" samplers for each family. The people at Habitat were extremely receptive of the idea. We teamed up with the members of the Yellow Rose chapter and stitched 42 samplers, individualized with the family's name. The two chapters got together at the Pearland Library and had a framing party. The samplers were given out at the neighborhood dedication ceremony on July 27, 2002. It was a wonderful event and the new home owners were thrilled with their gift!
