I
take this opertunity to inform you where I am and what I am at. I went to
the mines and stoped Two months and maid just about a noughf to pay my expences
and then came back to this place and shiped on board the stemer Senator for One
Hundred and Fifty Miles. I shal stay in this City if the wages continues
good but if not I shalgo to the Nothern mines in the summer. Hunter
Vaughan is on the steamer with me. Work and business is dul here now on
the account of the rainy season but I hope it will soon be over. We had a
fire in this place a fiew days sinse and the loss was Estimated at Two Millians
of Dollars, and when the building were on fire the oners were contracting
to have them built up again. So you can judge how business is carrid on
here. I just got your letters dated the 24 of Aug an was verry glad to
hear from you and I want you to write ex evry month and I will
do the same. Georg Rogers is at Stockton to work papering a house.
when I saw him last he wanted to get into sum business with me so we would be to
geather. Their was three men that I was acaquanted with in Packets got
here a fiew days ago. Gardner White is here to work for hi brothein law in
a bakery and James Symons is tending bar here at the Graham House.
Potatoes sell her for Twenty Five Cents a Pound Flower from Fifteen to Twenty
Dollars a bbl. Coars boots at Fifty Dollars a pair. Onions at 50 and
75 Cts a lb. and Evry thing Elce in the same proportion. My Health is
first rate and I waigh One Hunderd and Sixty Eight lbs.
Tell Mr. W H Robbison that I was verry much grattified to get a letter from Him and I will write to him by the next Steamer which leaves here the first of next month. this letter will leave to morrow and it has to be in the Office at five this afternoon.
tell Henry Kellog that I should like to go into the frouring buisness with Him if I can save money a nough. and I shall try hard to do it by next Fall. I have not got time to write to you all new, but I want you all to write to me. Give my respects to all, and good by for today
