ALBUM REVIEWS
And the occasional concert review when my cheap ass gets money to go to one.

So basically, I pretty much review everything I'm listening to at the moment.  Some stuff is old, some stuff is new.  5 * means super lemur, and 1 * means poopshit lemu

ALKALINE TRIO:  GOOD MOURNING
Definitely one of my favorite albums of the summer, and by far my most favorite Alkaline Trio album.  This record shows how much Alkaline has grown lyrically and musically;  it shows how much talent these guys rock.  It's got a dark brooding mood, but with that familiar tongue in cheek humor that Alkaline throws in so effortlessly.  Check out "We've Had Enough"  "Every Thug Needs A Lady" "100 Stories" and "Blue Carolina"  *****
THE BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE: LIGHT A MATCH FOR I DESERVE TO BURN
I really love this album.  If you like Finch, you'll love The Beautiful Mistake, because they have much of the same sound.  Great vocals, rocking riffs, and a screaming guy for good measure.  ?The first 6 tracks rock, after that it kinda trails off.  ****
JACK JOHNSON: ON AND ON
A great folow-up to his debut "Brushfire Fairytales".  This album is great to just sit around and chill to.  It's also great makeout music, if you're into that type of thing...which, I am.  Yes.  My favorite on this album is by far "Wasting Time"...the rest of the songs all merge together to make one nice chill evening with your friends or your makeout partner.  ****
FALL OUT BOY
A great little pop-punk band that needs more recognition!!  Go out and buy their record, because it fucking rocks!  More than any of the new pop-punk albums that come out this month (Mest, Brand New, etc.) these guys kick ass.  My favorite song is "Grand Theft Autumn".  ***1/2
RELIENT K: TWO LEFTS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT BUT THREE DO
I love Relient K, and not just because the lead singer is a sweet piece of man candy.  Haha, no it's because they rock.  I am not a fan of Christian bands, so I stayed wary of most of their prior efforts.  But this new album is just regular ol' pop punk and it's pretty damn good.  The songs don't have much difference between them, but they still rock.  Check out "Chapstick and Chapped Lips and Things Like Chemistry"  ***
N.E.R.D.:  IN SEARCH OF...
I'm not a huge hip-hop fan.  Oh who am I kidding, I NEVER listen to hip-hop.  But my boyfriend listens to rap (he calls my music "sorry ass punk") and I thought, god, there's got to be SOME redeeming quality about that music.  And so I have found that I rather enjoy some hop-hop.  But I'm sorry Rob, NO 50 CENT or NELLY for me.  NOOOOO.  That said, N.E.R.D. is cool.  For us punks who don't like hop-hop.  ***
A.F.I: SING THE SORROW
Another great album of the year.  A.F.I. is finally getting mainstream recognition and they freaking deserve it after so LONG.  They've been making music and albums for YEARS folks.  That said, "Sing the Sorrow" is their best effort.  Their brand of "gothpunk" just kicks ass, with dark lyrics and catchy chouruses.  Check out "This Celluoid Dream", definitely the best track.  ****1/2
BERES HAMMOND:  MUSIC IS LIFE
It's summertime folks and the best music for summer is REGGAE.  I LOVE reggae music, but it just doesn't seem right listening to it in the middle of winter.  I hate summer, but the one good thing about it is the fact that I get to pull out my reggae CD's and pretend like I actually enjoy stifling heat and stinging bugs and sweat.  Beres is the best reggae master since Bob Marley.  Check him out!
