June 2nd 2001 - St. Francis 5K Race

This was my second race of the year and it went off much better than the first.  I did really well and ended up somewhere in the high 28 min range.  That is under 10 minutes a mile so I think that it is pretty good.  I attribute my success to extensive training with Heather.  I only ran like 2-3 times but I consider that extensive.  I was mildly disappointed that I didn’t win anything.  There were just too many people in my age group.  There were 6 and I’m pretty sure I got 6th.  Heather did get 3rd in her division so that’s good.  There weren’t as many annoying things about this race, but there were some.

The Christainsen’s once again were at this race.  They, of course, destroyed pretty much everyone and took many, many places.  They left, so were not able to accept all the awards they won.  I’m pretty sure they must have had another race to go to.  They didn’t do this race last year so I’m assuming they had a conflicting one.  The 7 year old girl got a time just over 20 minutes.  That is freaking insane if you ask me.  She ran under 7 minutes a mile.  If I did that, I would die within about one mile.

The race people somehow misspelled my name.  They had my last name as Ikilmer instead of Kilmer.  I’m assuming they thought my middle initial L was the first letter of my last name or something.  Morons.  I was considering using this as a race alias so no one knows how bad I do in races, but there is no point.  If I wanted to do that, I would register as Jon Ricker.

They gave away all these prizes at the race but we didn’t win any.  The Dicaprio family however did win three things.  I think they should have just given everyone something.  All I got was a shirt, but I had to pay for it so that was no big deal.  This prize ceremony also took an extremely long time because they had to call out everyone’s name and then wait for them to come get the prize.  This caused me to miss getting the Ricker mail.  I don’t really mind but it was kind of annoying.

Annoying foreign guy was there again.  He kept following me and Heather around.  We would move somewhere to avoid him, and he would show up like 2-3 minutes later standing behind us.  I really don’t know what his problem is.  He got 3rd in the race overall.  I’m just glad I didn’t hear him complaining like last time or I would have had to kick him in the crotch.

At the end of the race I was sprinting towards the finish line and I passed this old guy.  He then ran up next to me and said “I’ll race you.”  Now I don’t like to lose so I thought to myself, “I’m going to destroy this guy.”  I started running about twice as fast and he quickly gave up.  I easily crushed him.  I really don’t know what his problem was but I hope I made him think twice about being an idiot.  I’m 22 and he was like 50 something.  Obviously he’s not going to win.  I guess some people just think they’re cool and that us youngsters all smoke and aren’t fit or something.  I guess he was wrong.

Another thing that annoyed me was these parents making their kids run in the Children’s sprint.  The one kid fell down and was crying and her Mom went over and grabbed her hand and started pulling her towards the finish line.  Then another boy was crying and his Mom was like “It’s only a little bit farther, let’s go.”  Later on I hear some guy complaining because they “Messed up his son’s time on the result sheet.”  I wanted to slap him.  Who freaking cares.  You son is 4.  He could care less about running.  You really shouldn’t be making him do this, and then bitch about his time.  I really wish I could beat some of these parents.

That’s it for the second race.  The third one is in three days.  Maybe I’ll write about it too.
