Library of Congress Classification for Cooperative Data

For archiving data and materials relating to cooperatives, the Library of Congress Classification is drawn upon in multiple areas. This is a quick list of the ones currently in use at Hege Library of Guilford College for information and data on cooperatives.

How to Use the Library of Congress Classification

The letter/number combinations above indicate a range of numbers where you can expect cooperative information and materials to be archived among stacks and shelves at Hege Library. Be mindful that there are multiple collections within the Library that use the same number system, and you can try your luck in all the collections using these number ranges: two popular collections sharing these numbers are the Main Collection and Reference Collection.

Simply take the numbers above and compare them to the posted stack guide signs in Hege Library. This will give the proper floor and collection to look for materials. The ranges are inclusive, meaning you can locate a stack with this number range and find cooperative data and materials within that range of numbers on the stack.

For example, to locate information on cooperative agriculture, compare the numbers HD 1491-1491.5 to a Hege Library stack guide, which will then direct you to the floor where the stack is located. The letters HD on the stack guide points to the second floor, so you will proceed there to find the proper stack. You can also search the Reference Collection on the Main Floor using the same numbers.
