I was turning a corner in the last few miles. You all saw all those little children along the route. And when I saw sorta the first of them, I noticed one of the Washington, D.C. riders standing there talking to four or five of them. You know, six-foot tall guy with these two-foot and three-foot tall little kids. And you know, we're in these sorta costumes that are not unlike superhero costumes. You know, spandex and the Washington, D.C.s are red and white and blue. And it looked like Superman talking to little kids, and they were looking up to him. And they were talking to a powerful human being, who believes in dreams, who is not willing to be limited only by what is reasonable, but who's willing to live his life to the fullest, give it everything he's got, `cause it's the only chance he's gonna get to go around.
And so many kids are surrounded by influences that'll limit them. It was a powerful moment for those kids to be around a superhero.
So to those who would talk to us over satellites about family values and about morality, you tell them to come to Anchorage. What we value, what one of the things we value is the family of humanity.
And where there are 1,498 people, and 500 crew, and 70 staff, who exercise real moral courage. You tell them to come here, with their hands frozen, and their feet frozen. You tell them to ride 68 miles in the snow and in the cold and in the rain in the Alaska Range, and then they can talk about moral courage.
That's my way of saying welcome to Anchorage. Here we are.
I want to congratulate you all on what we've just accomplished because I know many months ago, there were many of youMany Months ago? Hell, many days ago, who had great doubt about your ability to do this. You had great doubt about yourself.
This doubt, this doubt about ourselves, is perhaps the greatest enemy that confronts humanity. We look outside ourselves for the great danger, when in fact, it resides within. The voice within, the punishing voice that each of us knows that says we are not good enough. We are not strong enough. We're not good-looking enough. We're not smart enough.
Well today my friends, you are good enough.
Today let yourself be good enough.
