Salitre Magico Amusement Park
Bogota', Colombia  April 2001
Salitre Magico is the among the biggest amusement parks (there is one that might be bigger), but it is still not a large park compared to what we are used to.

It is home also to the largest roller coaster in Bogota- an old Arrow Corkscrew that was imported from a park in the USA.

But hey,  with an admission price of around $6 for unlimited rides, you can't beat it!

Walking in to the entrance of the park.  This is probably the prettiest part of the park, with much of the rest of it looking similar to a large scale carnival with a few permanent attractions (the coaster, go carts, a fun house and a haunted castle) Other rides that you can't see included a bunch of kiddie rides, a Himalaya (music city?), an octupus, a giant ferris wheel, and a few others.  The carousel- a beautiful one with a small second deck in the middle of it.  This is one of the prettiest ones I've seen- especially for a model that is designed to be portable.

<< The Apocalypse, also known as a Top Fun.  This was the newest ride, and one of the most popular.  It twists you, flips you, and gives you a good spin.

The Barco Perta (I think), in essence an intense pirate ship that goes upside down.  A very fun ride.

Three pictures of the Corkscrew Roller Coaster.  Riding it you could tell that it was old and had not seen the best of maintainance.  It was definately on the rough side and bounced us around a bit- especially after the loops!

But considering that when I arrived in Colombia I wasn't expecting there to be any coasers or parks like this at all, it was a great surprise!
