El Camino Academy
Bogota', Colombia  April 2001
El Camino Academy was founded 20 years ago as a school for missionary kids whose parents are working in the Bogota area.

Currently there are over 150 students in grades ranging from k-12.  Almost half of the families represented are missionaries from other countries working to help the people of Colombia.

Our first look at the school, taken from the street.  The lady is one of the teachers, and was also our host. Another view of the front athletic field.
The rest of the student poplulation at the school is composed of Colombians, both Christian and not, international business interests, and other international Christian workers.
The elementary court yard. The computer lab, with several of the high school students hard at work.
For many of the families, if El Camino was not here they would have to homeschool, send the kids to boarding school, or stay in the states.  Often the latter is the answer, which would leave their work undone.  That would mean that the churches, homeless shelters, orphanages, job training centers and other works would not be done.
More computer hijinks. The basketball court and some of the school buses parked and waiting to take the kids home at the end of the day.
We've heard it estimated that every teacher at the school allows 5-8 other people to be free to work and minister to the people of Colombia- people like the Panuela's and Bartels- that would not be able to otherwise.

(If you haven't heard of the Panuela's and Bartel's yet, check the Colombia and Calera pictures and the journal)

The Snack Bar (CocaCola) and "lunch counter" (Pepsi) along with the entry to the school's courtyards and offices.

The playground and a look at the combination basketball hoop/ soccer goal.  They are always in need of playground equipment and other P.E. supplies.
