INTRODUCTION.

Government Boys’ Secondary School No.1. Jacob Line Karachi, is situated near the famous STUDENTS’ BIRYANI, SADDAR KARACHI; is considered as one of the best government schools in the heart of city; where the quality is preferred onto the quantity. Though the annual fee/fund rates are even many times lower than a private school’s monthly dues,   yet the school administration and the staff have contributed a lot to provide the best facilities to their students. The facilitates that a good school needs, are available with very positive minded team of teachers/non teaching staff under dynamic leadership of professional, energetic, educated, experienced  and visionary head.

OLD HISTORY.

It is considered as one of the oldest and one time best schools of Karachi because it was built in 1947 in the barracks. Most of the dignitaries & renowned figures as politicians, scholars, artists, doctors, engineers, sportsmen and many more have studied in this age old school e.g. Ziaur Rehman, Ex.President Bangladesh,  Pir Zadah Qasim, VC Karachi University, Dr. Azhar Zaidi, Former VC Karachi University, Junaid Farooqi, Advocate, Jamshed Ansari  TV artist Tauseef Ahmad Cricketer and numbers of other renowned figures of the country have sought their secondary education in this institution.

WHEN THE NEW HEAD HAD TAKEN OVER...

Though the school has seen many good or bad days and going through all the difficulties & crisis since its birth yet the previous 10 years have really told upon its status & out put. The political war of tug & anarchy, rivalry and other mafias have really troubled the whole of the area. Being a government school, the administration was bound in chains and the then administration was not fully capable to move the institution to its right path. The school was turned to torture-cells; the class rooms were destroyed; there was no electricity, washrooms and water facilities. The regularity and punctuality among staff and students were missing. There was no self respect and for others. There was no security for the staff and students and no participation of parents through SMC. NGOs like Rotary; were utterly hopeless and completely convinced that there was no use of wasting money, resources and efforts on the institution. The enrolment was dropped up to 120.

THE PRESENT SCHOOL HEAD.

Mr. Aftab Ahmad Shaikh has been working in the context of education for the last 17 years; served as teacher and administrator in various organizations. He was also appointed as Principal in FG school system through Federal Public Service Commission in grade 18 directly; then he succeeded through Sindh Public Service Commission and appointed as head of this old school. Soon he was assigned to work as Deputy District Officer-I for 3 major towns of Karachi (Jamshed, Gulshan and Gulberg) in addition to his duties as school head.

He keeps on writing on various issues on Education.        He has got the degrees of  M.Sc (Physics), M.A(Int. Relations), M.A(Economics) & M.Ed.VTPT from IED-AKU, more than 24 Inservice Trainings and courses from BC&EW Sindh & CIPD Lahore. He is trying to complete his Ph.D in Education. He has remained an active sports man and represented his division in Hockey, Cricket and Football; remained grade “A” National Hockey Umpire. He loves reading books, is active in limited social circles and has a passion to keep him busy especially with computer & internet.

He has clear visions and beliefs about life, religion, culture and country. He believes in dynamic leadership and change from top (leadership level). He with other like minded officers started working on family oriented model of administration (unlike typical bureaucratic and participatory models) and they believe that they are doing effectively in the prevailing system of education.

He doesn’t believe upon biological age but emotional age (beside EQ) with regard to efficiency and out put. With the help of motivational skills and the support by the Almighty Allah; he has developed a team of good positive minded teaching and non-teaching staff and community members.  His contacts :-2785906 (School) 9217261 (Office), 2768846 (Home) 03012566980 (Cell) [email protected]

IT STARTED CHANGING….!

The school turned a new leaf; when the Karachi started to settle down after a decade’s political disturbances especially in the heinous lines area and the present head taken over on 26th of October 2002. Under his leadership the staff and the students started a new phase of development and now the school is considered as a reputed government school under city district government Karachi. The enollment which was dropped to 120 has not been raised up to 370 more over the trust of the community has been won again. The institution has somehow regained its lost status and reputation. It will be an injustice if the name of Mr. Abdul Wahab Abbassi (Dist. Officer (M) S&HS CDGK) is not mentioned for his support at his level best. When various revolutionary efforts were made by the teachers and other staff members then now the institution presents an entire different look. The details of the efforts are as under:-

No proper arrangements. Electric motor and pump used to remain out of order and cause a conflict between both the shifts over responsibilities. Especially sometimes no water for wash rooms watering to the lawns and other plantation.

Water table had been dropped to a deep extent making the boring useless.

Water has been made available by boring the earth up to 150 feet deep. Typical motor and pump have been replaced by spending more than Rs.18000/- Concealed water pipes have been laid to various parts of the lawn and points.

Wish to maintain and improve the available facilities.

Wish to keep our school neat and clean and want to maintain and improve the present status. Wish to have separate toilet for female teachers and a few sinks.

8

Male & Female Staff Rooms for teachers.

Needed major repairs. Dusty and unclean with no any sense of responsibility of keeping them clean which give an extremely negative impression upon the visitors.

Wish to make them even better by providing adequate furniture and lockers.

9

Office for the Clerks & record keeping.

There was nothing but the mess. There was no any sense of record keeping and its security. Room for clerks was nothing but a store for the junk and garbage. Secretarial staff kept on sitting here and there to do their work.

Wish to have the whole office record computerized and providing trainings to our concerned staff to use relevant software.

No concept.

Parents and councilors pay attention and remain ready to help but they are too busy to do that effective.

Wish to have their effective participation.

No concept except an organized SMC/PTA

More than 11 committees are working including an effective SMC

Community Participation is badly needed.

School Result

Very poor even once it reduced up to “0” percent

Better results. In the year 2004 BSE result was risen  to 100%  in theory while 96% on the whole while during the year 2005 it went up to 92%

We wish to improve our result especially with sparkling grades.

OUR LIMITATIONS & RESTRICTIONS

We are a part of government school system and naturally we are bind, limited and restricted to the government rules & regulations. For example we:-

Cannot appoint/transfer/terminate the staff in a usual way; lack funds; cannot bypass the bureaucratic style of administration; cannot avoid prevailing corruption and malfunction by the primary & secondary stakeholders of the organization; have very poor boys working in dual shifts with mostly illiterate contexts; are unable to face the political and social mafia and what not? L

WHAT CAN U DO?

Whether you are a high profile personality or a simple human being you can contribute a lot to the institution of ours by your valuable guidance and at least support of any kind. We will welcome and encourage your support whether it is large or least; even your moral support is enough for us.
You can:-
Provide Computer, English and Science Teachers

Maintain and develop our library with auditorium.

Fumigation to the wooden structure of the building.

Provide us good sound system.

Pay the fee due of the students.
Provide books and copies to poor/orphans students.
Provide Computers and other accessories for our lab.
Provide science lab material/stuff/equipment.
Contribute to arrange educational excursions/trips.
Provide us training & other professional support.
Provide us band master & other support on improving co curriculum activities.
Help us keeping up our valuable books in the library.
Maintain our medical room.
Arrange function(s) for the assistance of school
And any thing you deem fit.

OBJECTIVES, AIMS AND GOALS.

We are committed to provide the best education to our students and sky is the limit. We want to create the same generation that studied in our institution in the past and contributed a lot to the national progress.
