2.0 Introduction

The purpose of MasterSplitter(TM) is to split large files in order to move
them via floppies or for transmission via E-mail. MasterSplitter(TM) is an
ultra-fast 32 bit file splitter. The file can either be a binary or a
text file. The program features an intuitive graphical user interface
that makes splitting files easy. There is currently also a version for
Microsoft Windows 3.1 with the same great interface.

The program can also be easily be invoked directly from Windows Explorer
by simply right-clicking on any file and then selecting Send to
MasterSplitter(TM).

If you want to send the pieces to someone who doesn't have
MasterSplitter(TM), simply check the Create Reassemble Batch File" check
box and either a DOS/Windows 3.1 or a Win95/NT 4.0 compatible batch file
will automatically be created that you can send with the pieces to put
it back together.

Initial commercial release.

4.0 Installing and System Requirements

MasterSplitter(TM) has been tested under Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and
Windows NT 4.0 with a Intel Pentium based PC. There is currently also a version
for Microsoft Windows 3.1 with the same great interface.

To install MasterSplitter(TM), simply unpack the zip file and run the
setup.exe program. To uninstall it, select MasterSplitter(TM) from the
Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

5.0 Splitting Files

To start MasterSplitter, choose it from the Start Menu OR simply start it directly
from Windows Explorer by simply right-clicking on any file and then selecting Send
to MasterSplitter. The split tab from MasterSplitter controls the file splitting
operation. Enter the file name including the full path of the file you wish to
split. If you cant recall the name, just select the browse button and you can find
it. Or create a shortcut on your desktop, and you can drag files you want to split
to it.

Enter the size of the pieces you want to create. Notice that as you type the size,
the number of pieces automatically gets updated. You can also pick the "Auto Fill"
option from the dropdown box. There are also many preset diskette sizes defined in
the drop down. The default corresponds to a full 3.5 high density diskette. In the
advanced dialog box youll find many other advanced features. IF AND ONLY IF youre
confident that you will no longer need the original file, select the check box for
delete original when done. I DONT recommend doing this until your comfortable with
using the program. You can also automatically perform a compare once the split has
completed. If you want to send the pieces to someone who doesnt have MasterSplitter,
simply check the "Create Reassemble Batch File" check box box and either a DOS/Windows
3.1 or a Win95/NT 4.0 compatible batch file will automatically be created that you
can send with the pieces to put it back together. The "Auto Format" option will prompt
you with the standardWindows format dialog box which will allow you to format the disks
at the same time. This way you dont have to start with empty disks. If you click on
the split button without changing any other options, the pieces will be created in the
same directory. If you dont want that, un check the the "Same Directory" check box
and youll be prompted for a different location. You can choose another drive,
directory, or your floppy drive. Save the settings an you wont have to enter them
again.

Be sure that you have free disk space at least equal to the size of file your splitting
or it wont work. When youre ready to go, click on the split button to get things
started.

Note that MasterSplitter will not split folders, although this can be done quite easily
by zipping the folder first with a zip program, and then splitting the zip file with
MasterSplitter.

Many people wonder what the point of the tiny .000 file is. The original file is
contained in pieces .001 to .00n. You can think of the .000 file an .INI or information
file that contains important information about the properties of the original file when
you split it. Things like its creation dates, and size, etc.

6.0 Joining Files

To start MasterSplitter(TM), choose it from the Start Menu. The join tab
from MasterSplitter(TM) controls the file joining operation. Enter the
file name of the FIRST of the previously split pieces including the full
path. If you can't recall the name of a piece, just select the browse
button and you can find it.

IF AND ONLY IF you're confident that you will no longer need the file
pieces, select the check box for delete pieces when done. I don't
recommend doing this until your comfortable with using the program.

When you're ready to go, click on the join button to get things started.

When you are using the batch file to re-join the pieces, remember to copy
all of the file pieces and the batch file to ONE folder before trying to
run the batch file. Remember to pass this instruction on to anyone you
might be sending the pieces to as well. While the batch file does work,
the preferred method of joining files is to use MasterSplitter to do the
job.

7.0 Comparing Files

The compare tab from MasterSplitter(TM) controls the file comparison
operation. You may want to use this as a double check before deleting
anything. Enter the original (BIG) file name including the full path of
the file you wish to compare with its pieces. If you can't recall the
name, just select the browse button and you can find it.

Enter the file name of the FIRST of the previously split pieces
including the full path. If you can't recall the name of a piece, just
select the browse button and you can find it.

When you're ready to go, click on the compare button to get things
started.

batch files.
