1. William Lowell Putnam
Competition is held every year in December.
If you want to get a good result ( and we in the department of
mathematics pray for good results from
our Hopkins
team),
the spring semester is the best time to begin your preparation for this
difficult contest. The main purpose of this course is to provide training/coaching
services for potential participants of this competition, i.e. a coverage of some
problem solving techniques, theory and references.
Every 3 weeks, each student will make a presentation of a problem. Team
work is encouraged. The weekly homework assignment will contain 5 challenging
problems. Grading policy depends on your participation.
2. Every student who likes math is warmly
welcomed. Depending on the audience preferences, we'll solve some beautiful
problems from the textbook. Or we'll try to understand the fascinating approach
of the 2 obsessive math problems : ruler and compass constructions and
"formulas" for the roots of polynomials.(galois theory) Please
visit the links from
the previous page.
