Denki Blocks was rage games Ltd debut into the world of gaming. Some people might think that this game is just another puzzle game to try and regain the glory of Tetris. People who think this couldnt be further from the point. Denki Blocks is a completly original game, and is just as good as Tetris. Its bright colours and joyful tunes may lead some to the conclusion that its an simple game for children aged between 5-8 yrs. Surprisly, Denki blocks is one of the hardest puzzle games i have ever played. The game is instantly addictive from the moment that you pick it up, the bright colours and joyful tunes, seem to be there for one reason; to keep you playing at it.
The base of the game is that you visit a island in the middle of knowhere, and challege the locals to there favourite puzze game, Denki Blocks. You have to complete all the puzzle's that have been made for you, to win a diamond. There are 11 diamonds and you have to collect all of them to complete the game.
The whole point of the game is that you have to move little square blocks (called Gumblocks) to join them together to complete a stage. When joining the blocks together it makes a satisfing sucking sound, which also makes it more addictive. When there is more than one colour of blocks on the screen, you have to match the same colours together. There is also chances of getting bonus stars, which help you buy more puzzle's, to get these stars you have to make the shape with the blocks that is shown on the side of the screen. You can rotate and split the blocks by using the obstacles in the way. Like all puzzle games some stages are so hard and frustrating that you feel like throwing you GBA out the window.
Just when you thought that the game couldn't get any better along comes all the other modes in the game. Theres Tournament mode, which is where you challenge the locals. Theres Work out mode, which allows you to practice your techiniques. Theres also Perfecto mode, which allows you to see how fast you make shapes in the least amount of moves. Theres also a mutiplayer option which has got a great mode called 'Race', you have to make shapes as quick as possible to make your charcter go faster and win the race.
Bad points: The only problem with Denki Blocks is that it hasn't got a decent story line.
Graphics: 9.5/10, the graphics are bright, bold, sharp and clear.
Sound: 9.6/10, the sounds make the GBA come alive. Like Tetris, the tunes are catchy and joyful and the sound effects are indictive and blend perfectly in with the game.
Mastery: 9.9/10, this game has the easiest controls in the world. When playing the game you only use the D pad. You will be a master of it in no time.
Lifespan: 9.5/10, you may be able to complete the solo game quickly, but it as play back quality and has so many modes your be playing it forever.
Overall:9.6/10
A gaming classic that should be part of any puzzle mad gamer's collection.
