I first became familiar with this game many years ago. My cousins used to own the original game on their Amiga and loved visiting to play it, so when my friend offered to sell it to me I grabbed it straight away, hoping for the best...
Gameplay:
Double Dragon is an exact port of Double Dragon for NES. The NES (and Amiga) version of this game was brilliant, but for some reason they weren't able to apply any great brilliance here. Bearly playable, You'll soon find this game boring and repetitive. Inconspicuous thugs lack tediously in the variety side of things. The bosses are usually too easy, simple side-stepping and a few hit-combos will defeat most of them. If the boss isn't too easy, he's inpossibly hard.
Graphics:
The graphics look exactly like the NES version, except this time in four shades of grey. Just scraping through to deserve decent feedback, nevertheless, they were detailed enought to figure out.
Sound:
Once more, this is another poor feature. The sound is too cliche, simple "thuds" and "beeps" made up the generic "noise". Yes! Double Dragon has a good feature! Music! The music is great and you'll never get sick of it. This was the only thing that stopped me from turning the volume down for the game.
Controls:
Everything this game makes up for with its music, the play control completely destroys! The Flying Kick is impossible to actually hit someone with, and making jumps are regularly limited to "If I hit the button, I'll just die anyway" situations. This is terrible! They should of skipped making a kick button and made a jump button instead!
Final Comments:
If you liked Double Dragon for Nintendo, don't ruin your fun by getting it for the GameBoy, on the other hand if you've never played Double Dragon, also don't buy it. If someone offers you money to take it, maybe, the money may cover the counselling afterward.
