James is currently reading music at University College Chichester, with his first instrument being Piano. He was awarded the Joan Carr Award for Expressive Arts, 2003-2004; awarded to one student of Altwood School with great talent and dedication to the Arts. As a producer, James has created 'James Church and Friends in Concert', a concert which was performed on 9th April 2003, at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead. The show was a sell-out success. James has also produced another show, Heavenly Melodies, which was staged on 25th April 2004, at the Desborough Suite, Maidenhead, to a standing ovation. As a performer, James has apeared in many concerts, including the Bognor Regis Music Club and, as an accompaniest, for the Marlow Music Festival, and Alexandra Theatre's "Search for a Star" (Bognor Regis). James has a love for music theatre; He is preparing to be the rehearsal pianist for his Uni's production of, "Sweeney Todd" (Sondheim) and James' school productions as principal pianist have included: "Cabaret"; "Paws and Claws"; "Ghetto" and "Dream Baby" (At Norden Farm Centre for the Arts). The latter, James also acted as co-arranger and orchestrator. As a composer, James has composed incidental music for the school productions, "Whale", and "Jungle". Excitingly, James has also been assistant composer, and principal arranger for the new musical, "Shangrila". This is currently being handled by Elspeth Cochrane Personal Management This has involved James working with Professor June Boyce-Tillman, and the lyricist and librettist, Christopher Gilmore *He has also been seen turning pages for the renowned pianist, Clifford Benson and Alexander Taylor* James has taken Grade 8 Piano, with a view of entering the ABRSM Performance Diploma next year. With two other pianists, James has taken both Advanced and Intermediate Ensemble exams (3 at one piano, with Trinity), the latter gaining a distinction. James is currently studying piano with Chizumi Watanabe, and is a former pupil of Hilary Pugh. He has recently visited Cameron Mackintosh Ltd. to research The Witches of Eastwick orchestral scores - for a particular upcomming project... watch this space!! James is also a provisional member of Mercury Musical Developments (MMD), London, and a member of the British Musicians' Union. James' theatre entusiasm was piqued by the recent production of The Witches of Eastwick, the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim, and the multi-olivier award-winning actress/singer, Maria Friedman (who starred in the video of 'Joseph and his amazing technicolous dreamcoat', Ragtime, and Passion).
