Gay Uganda's Blog Dealing with issues lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and other sexual minorities in Uganda face. Akinola Christ-like? 27/12/2006
I have been seeing this article bandied about. And I thought it is due a quick question.
Is this Christ like? What does it show of the man Akinola? Well, it is hard to say, but-
These are mighty interesting Christians! 2006-12-27 10:01:44 GMT

I am desperate not to be disrespectful to the good Archbishop, but whenever I think of the man, two unsavoury words become irrestible, Nincompoop, and Imbecile!

As Christians, our wish should be for an inclusive church, a church that provides support and offers refuge, a place of comfort and succour. A place where it does not matter whether a person is poor, or rich, or unemployed, or disabled, or HIV+ or yes, homosexual. In all of His teachings throughout the Gospels, Jesus Christ did not once make any mention of homosexuals. From what we know of His life on this Earth, He spent a lot of His time among those who were considered to be the dregs of the society. The sinners. And His challenge to those who expressed an objection to this, was that they who had no sin, should cast the first stone. I grew up in a home where it was the tradition to go to church every Sunday, and I regularly attended Sunday School. Even as a child, I was taught that to be a Christian, is to be Christ like, to live even as Jesus Christ Himself did, and to follow His example. With this in mind, I am astonished that Archbishop Akinola, a leader within the Christian community, an Archbishop, has taken it upon himself to lead a hate campaign against homosexual people. I cannot even begin to imagine that Jesus Christ would 'jump back' if he found that he had shaken the hand of a leper, much less a person whose only "sin" is that he loves another human being, even if of the same sex, indeed such love as to keep the couple together in happy union for many years. The man seems to lack even the common sense to know that homosexuality is not a contagious disease. This bothers me, and my mind suggests to me that there is a hidden problem with this Archbishop. I dare to speculate that there are underlying psychological issues that are concealed behind that priestly garb. Might it be that the dear Archbishop is a repressed homosexual himself? Could it be that he feels threatened by his own unacknowledged and unfulfilled homosexual desire? Does he feel threatened by those of us who are strong willed enough to accept our sexual orientation, and carry on with our lives despite the difficulties that we face? Is it possible that in his failure to accept his own homosexuality, he has become so frustrated that he lashes out at us, seeing us as soft targets, and being assured that he carries the support of the vast majority of his fellow Africans, who are not well informed, and are therefore lacking in knowledge? This Archbishop has been casting huge stones at us, no, he is hauling rocks and boulders, and I am wondering why. Why the fixation on homosexuals and homosexuality? --Bunjo <mailto:[email protected]>

And that is a real possibility. Or he may just want the power. He is creating a virtual realm of his own, as far away as America. That is power, man!
