RESEARCHING MY ANCESTRY SURNAMES: MOTT- SMITH-MCARTY-EVANS-GREEN
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mott, born in Perry County Mississippi February 1835, father was born in "Indian Territory" , mother born in Virginia, she had at least 2 brothers : Jerry & Bill Mott. Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter "Amanda Mott" around 1852, this child was fathered by the 'master' or 'overseer' of the plantation. Lizzie would be sold twice during her years of slavery, but would be reunited with her daughter (who was left on the Mott plantation) shortly atfer the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclaimation . She and others would travel northward and would eventually settle in Wayne County, and sometime after the Civil War and 1900, Lizzie met and married Watt Smith, they had at least seven children. her daughter Amanda 'Mandy' met and married William McCarty, they may have had at least 13 children. Lizzie's brother Jerry would remain in Perry County , marry and raise his children. I'm not sure where Bill settled, possibly in Clarke Co. this my research to date.
BILL MOTT
Below I've compiled genealogy and census of african americans of surnames of interestand from Wayne, Clarke and surrounding Counties. These families may or may not be related, in some cases I was able to trace some of them from 1870 to 1930. though first generation appear to be sibling, I don't know if they are, they were black individuals with that particular last name, and simply a statring point to begin my trace some are my ancestors, but not all of them, or I may not have been able to link them.
