All tortoises and turtles need space to roam. They love to have hiding places and dirt to dig in. As you can see I have put my two tortoises in a little kids swimming pool. It is cheap and very easy to clean.
Because I am not the construction type, I picked a kids wading pool for our outside home. It fits perfectly on the corner of my deck. I went to the local K-Mart store and picked a kids wading pool that had a couple holes in it. I got for .50 cents, so we cann't get any cheaper than that. I did choose the largest of the wadding pools. While I was there I picked up some peat, and top soil, I also got a bag of pine chips and bag of river rock, and got few safe edible flowers. At the local pet shop I picked up a hiding log. Our water hole is just a flat plastic bowl, probably got it at K-Mart.
Next was to set the new home up. I picked to have one side with dirt and the other with rock. So I mixed the peat and topsoil up and put it on one side of the pool. I formed a hill so that away the have something to climb. I wanted flowers to add color to our new home, so I planted a couple of day lillies and some geraniums. They added green life to our new home. On the other side of the pool, I washed the river rock and placed it on the opposite side of the dirt. I then washed all of the wood chips and placed over dirt and mixed some in with the rock. The two larger rocks I had from my yard, so I washed them up and placed them in there as well. My tortoises actually like them they lay on them in the morning sun. We added the hiding den I picked up from the pet store. Added our water hole, and of course we have fresh food daily.
