Where are the Lesbians?

The gay scene in Cyprus is small but the lesbian scene is even smaller. Where are the ladies? Does our society make women over-sensible to the point they deny themselves the opportunity of finding a match or a one night stand? Are lesbians discouraged by the scene as it doesn’t offer enough variety?

One thing’s for sure: lesbians are too afraid to come out of the closet. They are afraid of being ridiculed or even losing their friends and support from their families. But girls consider this… Is someone who will reject you entirely because you are a homosexual a real friend of yours? On the other hand someone who loves you will stick by your side even if they don’t approve of homosexuality. Plus if they love you they might change their views about homosexuality as they will see it’s nothing to be afraid of. Another point I want to make is this: We only have one life so make the most of it! If you get into a relationship with a man you don’t love just to cover up they fact that you are gay, it’s you who’s going to be unhappy… If you think your family won’t react in some insane way about your homosexuality, it might be good for you to tell them. It will be a comfort to know they’re still by your side.

Remember this: It’s OK to be a lesbian. It’s only a matter of personal preference. And gay rights are about the right of having an individual preference for people of the same sex which is harmless. Do remember: the majority are wrong by being homophobic. Don’t impose that on yourself. Live your life the way you want to and be proud of who you are. If you make some good gay or lesbian friends you will gain the support that you may be in need of. The Cyprus LGBT group called Holebi is a good place to meet new people for friendship and the gay scene will possibly produce a match for you or a lover for one night so get out there ladies!
