Lesbians in Cyprus 

     Lesbians in Cyprus usually keep their sexuality a secret or they disclose to close friends and family. Of course there are exceptions. Sometimes you will see women caressing each other or kissing in public but not very often. Sometimes lesbians will go to great lengths to hide their sexuality or to deny it to themselves. These lesbians have relationships with men or they get married and there is quite a number of those in previous generations, but not so many in this generation. 

     Those who have accepted their sexuality often visit gay or gay-friendly places in order to meet people but most lesbians who visit gay venues are looking for sex or short-term relationships. Nevertheless, you will find all sorts of people at the gay scene because most lesbians who have accepted their sexuality will visit them sometimes once they become aware of their existence. Of course, you don’t need to go to gay venues in order to meet lesbians. You can find lesbians in all walks of life. 

     I will close with a word of advice about internet chat rooms. Men in Cyprus consider it an achievement to sleep with a lesbian and will often pretend to be women in order to “fix a date” with a lesbian so they try to talk her into sleeping with them or even rape them. At least half the “lesbians” in Cypriot chat rooms are men so be careful!
