Misery No Company

Misery No Company

She laughed sadly into the whirlpool
Her eyes swirling in pain
Wishing to let her pain follow
The twist of water before you

She sniffed, wiping her nose on her
Sleeve, wanting a tissue but
Making do in the meantime
Curling in a ball as the
chill of dawn broke over her

Her eyes shiny and red
As if she had been crying
For a week rather than
The hour she had sat there

The timbre of her laugh
Changed before breaking off
Into silence as she felt
Her stomach churn and her
Heart clench.
