David never comes even a single minute late.
Exactly when Rebecca Terry Melveena’s clock bell strikes at 6AM, his tempo will
be right outside the entrance of her home. It now 7AM, still he has not come. Rebecca, who is 25 years old, has no connection to the external world. She has no mobile and even a fixed line phone in her home. She doesn’t have even TV or Radio in her home. She is sure that today is not Sunday but Wednesday. If the day had any function or bund then David
would have conveyed the message the previous day itself. Rebecca has not taken even a single day leave
in the office. Every day she reaches her office at 6:30AM and will start from
office at 9:30PM, while the office timings is 9AM to 6PM. She spends “exactly”
15 hours in her office. Yes Rebecca is not a usual lady. She is not
something different, but totally. Rebecca is overweight. She has never taken to
any parties by her mother. She never had any fun in her life so far. She never
joins with other children in her school days. She felt she is different from
everybody else. She doesn’t have any friends. She hate the word “fatty” as most
of her class-mates and even some teachers call her the way. Seven years before
It was nearly seven years back, Rebecca 17
years old, just completed her School, ran away from her home. She took a small
rented home. She shut herself inside the house. She is highly irritable. She even dreaded the
sound of doorbell ringing, and removed it. On the second day in her new house for the
first time someone knocked her door. She slowly opened the door. The old guy
introduced himself as David John. He might be nearly around 50. “There is a opening for an accountant in one
office nearby. They need a highly dedicated worker. So I came here to help me.
When you accept the job, I will get $100. So my family can take food the
next one-week. So please help me.” David pleaded. Rebecca deliberately in need of a job to run
her life. Since Rebecca never used to talk
with any new person in her life, she just kept quite.
David waited for few seconds and left the
place with silent dignity. Again the next day Rebecca’s door was knocked
it was the same David. Before David start his request, Rebecca just nodded her
head. David directly gets the answer that she accepted the job. David could understand
the words of her eyes. He waited outside the door. She dressed herself and
started with him. It was a big tempo. Rebecca could feel the
David has brought such a kind of vehicle to crry Rebecca. She gets into the tempo. She joined the organization the same day.
David told her that he will come back in the evening to take her
back. She was put in a room of several people together. The same day evening David found from her eyes that she finds difficult working in that crowd. As David is a respectable servant of the MD, David requested him to provide
the unused store room to her so that she feel better. David's request is accepted. She saw the face of mankind for the first
time in her life Rebecca likes the attitude of David. David
seems different to her. He can understand her just from her eyes. He requested
that everyday he will take her for office and home transportation for just $50 per
month. He will purchase the food items, pizzas and burgers for her everyday and
produce the bill and get money from her. She never had any problem in staying,
cooking and paying bill for current. As David will understand her need and help
her. He will produce the bill and collect money. He is a true gentleman. He has
never asked to increase the amount for transportation. But Rebecca will
increase at least by $25 every year. Today
At 7AM the doorbell rang, as she guessed it is
David. David in sad face told her “My wife is Dead, so sorry for the delay,
Please come I will leave you in office it’s already late, I have the final
rites to be performed to my wife”. Rebecca could see the work conscious of
David. Rebecca doesn’t know any personal thing about
David. About David wife or David’s Son/Daughter etc. Rebecca slowly asked, “I will take leave today
for the first time in this office. Please take me to your wife final rites”.
This might be fifth or sixth time Rebecca is talking with David in the last 7
years. “Yes” David told. When Rebecca saw David’s wife dead body she was
shocked. Because even she is overweighed. Now Rebecca found the answer how
David can understand her words of her eyes. Rebecca’s MD was also there in the final rites.
He told David’s wife is a deaf and dumb. So whenever he saw anyone of
overweight he will help him or her. Her MD added, “ One day he came to my house
and asked whether there is any vacancies in my organization”. I told “Yes, for the post of accountant” “My wife sister, a small girl aged 17 who has
just completed her school, ran away from her home as she feel very sad being
overweighed. She has to run her life so can you help her.” Rebecca was totally shocked when she hears that
David is her sister’s husband. Rebecca had a sister, Johnsy Terry Melveena who
ran away from her home when Rebecca is 2 years due to love. David’s parents
don’t accept their love, because Johnsy is very fat. So situations forced both
David and Johnsy to run away from their home. Rebecca got confirmed that Johnsy is her
sister, when she saw her parents crying near the dead body of Johnsy. “Johnsy, Johnsy, Johnsy” Rebecca was unable to
control her tears. “Oh Jesus why didn’t you showed my sister so far”. She
cried, “I love you Johnsy”. Time is capable to make everyone understand the
valuable of relationship. Rebecca has so many questions in her mind. She
wants to know more about Johnsy. The final rites of Johnsy were over. Everyone
left the place. It was only David and Rebecca in that place. Rebecca slowly came towards David, David wiped his eyes and told, “Shall we start.
It’s getting late. I will leave you in your home.” “David” she murmured. David didn’t hear her
voice. “David, I want to ask you something”, she asked
with small tears in her eyes. “Thanks
for all the helps that you have done so far. What forces you to come forward
and help me?” Rebecca asked her first question David
was very clear in his tone, “Johnsy and myself had much respect and love for
you. It was only Johnsy who asked me to do all the things that you need in your
life. Only she has requested me to not to tell anything about her.” Rebecca
unable to control her tears, she seems to know more about Johnsy, “How about
Johnsy? Didn’t she feel bad for being obese?” “I
am so proud of Johnsy; she is obese but she lived her life very
happily in spite we are very poor!!!” David also feels proud while answering
about his wife Why
God created us obese? “It’s
not Lord God. But there are many medical reasons that may be beyond a person's
control that can make you gain excess weight. Everyone has issues/demons of
some sort, some of us have big ones, some of us little ones, some just one or
two, some lots and lots. But the key to success is not getting rid of all your
demons and your issues, they will always be there, it is in turning around and
fighting, with all you have, not using it as an excuse to fail, but as an
obstacle to over come, a hurdle you have to learn to jump. “ David could
see that Rebecca is getting clear. And she needs more words from his to make
more clear. David started again, “Most of us have
accomplished something good. You got
good education, a very good and respectable job. But you have not learned how
to overcome difficulties. We cannot master our life in a day or a week. We
learn things by making mistakes along the way. We have to help others, teach
others and lead others. It is realizing you CAN do it. It is not allowing
yourself to be a victim, and not making excuses for why you can't fight by
telling obese as a reason.” David had a very big breath after his sincere
advice to his sister-in-law. Rebecca
still seems to be bit unclear, “How can an obese person be happy?” David
never lost his hope, he continued, “I know that it is very hard to go from
obese now. Rebecca
was little clear, but unable to accept comments from outer world. She asked, ”Being
an Obese wherever I go, I face only comments and failures” The
well-experienced David takes no times to clear her doubt. “It’s not so easy and
there is no simple solution, but you have the power. When you make excuses and
tell yourselves you can’t, you set yourselves up for failure. Not just obese
person, every person in this world has so many challenges. Sometimes we need to
reach out for help, sometimes we need to make several tries to get it right,
but success is failing 9 times and trying 10.” Rebecca
understood about life. She realizes that “Life is never that simple, it isn't
something you wake up one morning with the answer to all your big riddles”. At
the same time there is solution to all her problems through people like David. She
wiped her tears and told, “David, Come-on leave me in my house, it’s getting
late.” On
the way she asked David to stop the tempo. She went to shop for the first time
and purchased pizzas for her dinner. They reached her home. “David
come tomorrow at 9:15AM in the morning to take me to office, I have to prepare
breakfast and lunch, Evening come to my office at 6:30PM, we have to go for
purchase.” Rebecca told in clear voice. “I never want to live the same
life which I have lived so far. I want to be happy and make the people around
me to be happy.” She told to herself and opened her door. |
