| SO WHAT IS A SEMESTER PROJECT? DO I HAVE TO DO IT? DO I GET A GRADE FOR IT? THE SEMESTER PROJECT IS THE ART ROOM EQUIVALENT OF A RESEARCH PAPER--IN FACT, ONE OF THE OPTIONS IS A RESEARCH PAPER(SEE GUIDELINES). THE SEMESTER PROJECT IS A REQUIREMENT FOR ANYONE SEEKING TO EARN AN A FOR SECOND AND/OR FOURTH QUARTERS AND THEREFORE AN A FOR A SEMESTER, HOWEVER, THE SEMESTER PROJECT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY ENTITLE A STUDENT TO AN A--AN A AVERAGE MUST ALSO BE MAINTAINED. THE SEMESTER PROJECT DOES NOT EARN A GRADE AS SUCH, BUT IS REQUIRED TO MEET CERTAIN STANDARDS OF COMPETENCE TO BE ACCEPTABLE. DON'T EVEN TRY TO TURN IN GARBAGE. THE SEMESTER PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO ENRICH THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SPECIAL INTEREST IN THE VISUAL ARTS, BUT IS ALSO AVAILABLE FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE MOTIVATED BY GRADES. DO YOU HAVE TO DO IT? THE APPROPRIATE QUESTION IS DO YOU WANT TO DO ONE? IT IS YOUR CHOICE. |
| WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE FOLDER? DO I GET A GRADE FOR IT? THE FOLDER IS AN ORGANIZATIONAL DEVICE WHICH IF PROPERLY UTILIZED, NOT ONLY KEEPS PROJECTS TOGETHER BUT PROVIDES A PLACE TO KEEP SUCH INFORMATION AS DEADLINES AND TIME SPENT ON PROJECTS--WHICH TRANSLATES TO NUMBER OF GRADES PER QUARTER. THE FOLDER MAY BE GRADED AT ANY TIME FOR UPDATES, LEGIBILITY AND COMPLETENESS OF INFORMATION. WHY DO I ACTUALLY HAVE TO WORK FOR AN A THIS YEAR? THE FIRST YEARS IN THE ART ROOM ARE DEVOTED TO PRACTICING ALL OF THE CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES WHICH GIVE STUDENTS AN APPROPRIATE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE TO DRAW UPON TO PRODUCE ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART BASED ON PERSONAL PREFERENCES AND EXPERIENCE. WORK ETHIC AND TRUE CREATIVITY BECOME REAL ASSETS WHEN WORKS ARE EVALUATED ON OUTCOME INSTEAD OF PROCESS. MATURITY BRINGS RESPONSIBILITY AS WELL AS ABILILTY. WHAT'S WITH THIS SCORING GUIDE THING? MANY OF THE CLUES USED IN EVALUATING VISUAL ART--IS IT WELL MADE? DOES IT SERVE THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH IT WAS INTENDED? WILL IT STAND THE TEST OF TIME?----ARE APPLICABILE IN THE REAL WORLD ; IF YOU WANT TO PAY FOR GARBAGE--AT LEAST BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE IT. |
