Sensei Fernando Sanchez President, Gattai Martial Arts
Sensei Fernando Sanchez was born and raised in the city of Plainfield and attended the Plainfield Public Schools. He was introduced to martial arts through the Police Community Athletic Leaue (P.C.A.L) at the age of 8 under the instruction of Masters Jon Robinson, Myke Washington and Mike Gilliam. Fernando was the first student to achieve his black belt from the P.C.A.L. karate school at the age of 14. Sensei Fernando was promoted to the level of First Degree Black Belt at the age of 17.
He competed across the Northeast, and in the Garden State Games Karate Tournament winning first place medals in kata, weapons and kumite. The reputation of the P.C.A.L. Martial Arts School grew as Sensei Fernando's and his peers winnings accumulated. Sensei Fernando was flown to Dayton, ohio to participate in an Open-Hand Martial Arts Tournament, and winnings from that tournament were so impressive that Sensei Fernando and his teammates were recognized and honored by Plainfield City Council via a Proclamation and New Jersey General Assembly Resolution.
