Disclaimer: Nope, not mine, big surprise -_-;

Okay, chapter two…I seem to have some strong, deep-seeded desire to torture Seto, it seems….

Seto: So I  noticed. -_-;;;;;;;

Yugi: Yeah, what did he ever do to you?? *huffs*

Yami: Again, where the hell am I in this story??

Dai: Um… I’m not sure… I think you might just be more a voice in Yugi’s head than an actual person….

Yami: -_-

Dai: ^^;;; Though I might give you a scene or two in this if the readers want it.

Yami: With the way you treat your characters, I’m not sure I do want to be in it…..

Seto: -_-

Chapter two

Yuugi ran into the lobby of the hospital, breathlessly asking for directions at the front desk before rushing to the elevator, his heart pounding rapidly in his chest. He placed a hand over it, willing it to slow down some. When the elevator got to the right floor, he stepped out and into the waiting room where a sobbing blur all but tackled him. He looked down at the sobbing Mokuba, icy panic seeping into his veins since this obviously wasn't a positive reaction. He swallowed deeply around the emotions that rose in his throat and stroked the boy's back lightly, trying to calm him down enough to get him to say something, though he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to hear it. He led the smaller boy over to the plastic chairs of the waiting room; sitting him down and crouching in front of him, seeing his tears start to subside.

"He doesn't remember me!" The boy exclaimed loudly. Whatever Yuugi had been expecting, fearing, that hadn't been it. It took a moment for everything to wash over him at once. First, relief that the other was still alive, and apparently conscious. Second being sympathy for the boy in front of him, knowing how much his brother meant to him. Lastly he felt concern for Seto, not knowing what was wrong with the brunette. He murmured something reassuring to Mokuba, giving the boy's shoulder a squeeze before seeking out Seto's room, his breath catching in his throat when he passed the open doorway, seeing his former lover seated on the bed, talking to the doctor who was apparently explaining to Seto about himself. He bit his lip to keep from making a sound as he watched quietly, not wanting to interrupt.

He swallowed a little as he studied Seto. His rich chestnut hair was rumpled and mussed from everything he had been through, as well as lying in the hospital bed. It hung down in his face and over his shoulders. The sight made Yuugi want to smile. He knew firsthand how much Seto hated having his hair anything but in its immaculately groomed style. The older boy claimed that when it simply fell loose he looked far too much like a girl for his liking. Yuugi couldn't disagree more. Even now, sitting bandaged in a hospital bed, the way Seto looked with his hair ungroomed was entirely bishounen. Even with their estrangement between them, he would be the first to admit it.

He ran his gaze lower over the other's eyes, blinking a little when he saw how dazed an unfocused they were, a look he'd never before seen in them, and frowned at the dark circles around the azure orbs. It looked as though Seto hadn't slept in days, maybe longer, and his features showed his exhaustion. It worried him more than a little. In the whole time they had been together, Seto had never had a problem sleeping. Sometimes, Yuugi had stayed up during the night to watch him since that was the only time they ever seemed to have together. He loved the way Seto looked when he was sleeping; carefree and boyish, almost as if he were just a normal teenager living an ordinary life, and not the CEO of a multinational corporation.  Not that he wanted him to be different; he had loved Seto for simply being who he was, but still, sometimes he had simply wished that there weren't so many things to come between them.

He finally coughed softly, announcing his presence to the two in the room, stepping in softly.

/I never knew that angels wore leather..../ That was the first thought to cross Seto's mind as a small boy, barely taller than the one who had just run out, stepped into the room, hesitation in his step. He immediately prayed that this boy wasn't his brother as well because, even if he couldn't remember, he was certain that he had never seen a more beautiful creature in his life.

He swallowed deeply around his immediate reaction to the boy, his heart fluttering and constricting in his chest, and sat up fully, his eyes glued to the newcomer who looked as if he expected him to pounce and bite at any moment.

"E-excuse me..."  Seto's eyes widened slightly at the melodic voice; the sound of it echoing in his mind, and barely managed to register words as the boy spoke. "I don't mean to interrupt... Mokuba.... Mokuba said that you....lost your memory?" It came out more as a question, as if the boy didn't want to believe anything until he was absolutely sure.

He was certain he just sat the for a minute, simply staring at the boy, until it occurred to him to respond.

"Uh... Yes... Mokuba is.... My brother?" He questioned, making a mental note of the name as the tri-color haired boy nodded. He found himself swallowing a little as he completely forgot about the doctor in the room with them.

"Then...you know me?"

The boy nodded.

"Yes... we are... good friends."

Something about the way the boy said it caught his attention; hesitant, as if he had to force the words from his throat.

Seto nodded a little.

"I see... and you are?" He asked, his voice soft as he patted a spot on the bed beside him for the boy to sit. The cherub looked hesitant, again as if he were afraid of being bitten. The thought bothered him and he wondered why a boy who claimed to be his friend, one so charming and beautiful, would be so wary of him. Finally the boy moved closer, sitting down beside him, though still keeping a bit of a distance.

"My name is Mutou Yuugi." He said softly, looking as if he felt very awkward introducing himself to someone he seemed to know well. Seto almost smiled at the name, finding it oddly fitting for the boy in front of him, and felt a pang of something bittersweet in his chest. Did he have some sort of feelings for this boy? It wouldn't surprise him, given his initial reaction to him.

He gave the boy a soft smile, blinking a little when he looked startled by the expression. That was something else he'd have to make a note of for later.

He absently noted that the doctor had left the room, though didn't really care, all of his attention completely focused on the petite boy beside him.

Yuugi had a hard time remembering how to breathe, much less speak, around Seto, having his former lover so close to him, looking at him with a mix of confusion and delight, obviously glad to have someone who could tell him about himself nearby. He'd nearly lost it when the other had smiled at him, something he'd never expected to see again, and had to struggle to compose himself.

Seto, not surprisingly, asked him many questions, though gave him ample time to answer before launching into a new inquiry. It was so hard to look at the other beside of him and to think of him having no idea who he was, who anyone was, and to remember that, while the memories were still clear and painful in his mind, that Seto had no idea of the things that had passed between them. Some small, shallow part of himself, resented the brunette for that.

He did his best to answer Seto's questions, trying to be as civil and understanding with him as possible, given what the older boy had been through, until finally some touchy subjects came up.

He slowly explained to Seto about his parents being dead, as well as his foster father; understandably leaving out certain details, and told him how he and Mokuba lived on their own. Seto seemed to take it calmly, though he wasn't surprised. Seto had never been one for dramatic reactions.

When the doctor finally came back, Yuugi was surprised to find that over an hour had passed and he blinked when the subject of Seto going home was brought up.

The older man gave Seto a serious expression as he sat down in a chair next to the bed.

“Baring all complications, you should be able to go home today.” The man told him, his expression sober. “You’re bound to have a few severe headaches, but we’ll prescribe you some medication that, taken sparingly, should help with those.”

Seto sat up straight, turning his full attention on the man, and nodded somberly.

“Alright.”

The older man wrote something down on a slip of paper, then handed it to Seto.

“This is a prescription for MS Contin. It’s a type of Morphine.” He explained. “We don’t generally give this to patients with concussions, so it would be best to have someone nearby at all times. This is where I’d normally ask if you had anyone who could come stay with you for the next week or two, but…” the doctor trailed off, it obviously what he was getting at.

Seto frowned a little. His thoughts went to that boy from before, Mokuba… His brother, he reminded himself, but immediately dismissed the thought. That boy had been quite young and not a suitable form of supervision, should anything happen to him. He wasn’t sure how, but his latent memories told him that with a concussion, it was not unlikely for him to have blackouts, or fainting spells. He would need someone responsible there for him, which left him with practically no options.

“I can stay with you for a little while.”

Two heads turned on the small boy whom they’d temporarily forgotten was in the room with them. Yuugi swallowed hard, mentally berating himself. That had to have been the stupidest thing he had ever said. Without a doubt. He could barely go a day without thinking about Seto, how was he supposed to spend a week or two with the brunette, who currently had no idea who he was, and not go mad from the longing?

Seto looked at Yuugi with an indecipherable gaze for a moment before nodding.

“I would…appreciate that.” He said smoothly, his gaze soft.

Yuugi thought he would melt under that almost casual look, something he had seen so rarely from his former lover. /Aw, shit… I’m in for it now./ He thought morosely. He forced a bright smile onto his face for the other, resolved not to let his distress show.

“Un, it’s no problem. After all, we’re… friends.” He chirped.

Seto narrowed his eyes for a brief second. There it  was again. That brief lapse whenever the boy try to say they were friends that made him suspect the smaller one was trying to hide something from him, though he didn’t know what. His instincts told him that the boy wasn’t a danger to him. Far from it. His instincts were encouraging him to jump the boy. So he supposed he couldn’t rely on them too much. Still… he didn’t think the boy was capable of hurting a fly, much less a person. Though it was nagging at him to wonder what the boy was thinking, and just who he was really.

Forcing the thoughts out of his head, he smiled at the boy, and nodded at that, turning back towards the doctor who seemed to be waiting impassively, not wanting to intrude on the private exchange.

The older man nodded, sensing the conversation had come to a close, and got to his feet, this time looking at Yuugi.

“Alright, if everything is settled. I’ll go sign the papers to have mister Kaiba released. If you would come with me, mister Mutou – was it?—I can give you some instructions for watching over him and for helping him with taking the medicine.”

Yuugi blinked a little, then cast a quick glance at Seto before nodding slightly, getting off the bed and following the older man, somewhat grateful to get away from Seto; especially since it was getting harder and harder to hide his emotions from him.

Seto watched the two go, thinking to himself, and wondering just what he had done to get himself into a mess like this. It was more than a little distressing and he absently wondered if he had done something to deserve this. He didn’t feel like a bad person, not that he supposed he knew what that felt like, but he didn’t think he was the type to intentionally hurt people, or kick puppies, or something like that.

Still, what he had picked up from his conversation with Yuugi, though the boy hadn’t said anything to the fact,  it was quite clear that he didn’t have any friends. The fact that Yuugi was the only, his brother aside, who had come to see him, attested to the fact that he wasn’t an overly liked person.

The thought bothered him and made him wonder what about him was so unpleasant. Yuugi had told him that he was very rich, though hadn’t quite specified how much. He wondered if perhaps he was wealthy enough that he intimidated people to keep their distance. It wasn’t entirely implausible, though Yugi didn’t seem to have any reservations of that sort. True, the boy had seemed unsettled, but he didn’t seem to have any trouble talking to him, so he didn’t think that was it entirely.

He thought back to what the doctor had told him about himself. From what he had understood, he had inherited the largest company in the city from his father when he had died, nearly two years ago and that he was now the CEO of it. He supposed that put him in quite a prominent, if not imposing position. He figured that it did make it quite difficult for him to socialize with teens his own age who were probably thinking about graduation and road trips, not tax returns and business reports. It made him wonder how he and Yuugi had come to be….friends. Or whatever it was that they were.

He would have to ask the boy about it later.

“OI! Kaiba!!”

Seto was startled out of his thoughts by the loud, indignant voice that boomed at him before the owner even entered the room, causing the hairs on the back of his neck to rise. He frowned, straightening, as a boisterous blonde entered the room, a scowl plain on his face.

“Well well, look what we have here.” He drawled, the dislike plain in his voice, enough so that Seto didn’t bother to hide a scowl. “I guess you are human after all. Though you clearly got what you deserved, you snake.”

Seto was more than a little taken aback by the harsh attitude of the blonde, having no idea who he was.

“Really?” He asked, his voice a frigid tone that even startled himself. “How do you figure that?”

The blonde put his hands on his hips, glaring down at him as he tried not to be intimidated by the brunette lying in the hospital bed.

“You deserve everything you get and more after what you did to Yuu—”

“JOUNOUCHI!!!”

Both boys turned to see Yuugi standing in the doorway, a horrified expression on his face, and Seto looked immediately contrite, focusing solely on the smaller boy, who was apparently acquainted with this… this… mongrel! Something about the look on the boy’s face, pained and terrified, made his heart ache, and he didn’t know why. Seto’s brow furrowed for a moment. He was certain that the blonde had been about to say ‘what he had done to Yuugi.’ That made him more than a little curious.

The blonde stammered for a moment, obviously just as startled to see the smaller boy there.

“Ah, Y-Yuugi.. I uh… I was just….”

The smaller boy’s face melted into a scowl, something the brunette was startled to see, and marched over to the blonde.’

“I know exactly  what you were doing, Katsuya Jounouchi.” The smaller boy growled, the blonde wincing at the use of his full name. “Right now Seto-kun doesn’t even remember who he is, much less who you are, and the last thing he needs is you harassing him.”

Seto blinked at the display, watching the petite boy give the blonde a severe talking down. It was a startling sight, and he wondered if he had ever been on the receiving end of that seemingly fiery temper. /Is this really the same little thing who came into my room an hour ago?/ He wondered, mystified.

The blonde looked shell-shocked by the boy’s words and staggered back a little, looking back and forth between them.

“Wha?? Ya mean he doesn’t remember anything??” The boy questioned, the tone in his voice causing Seto to scowl.

“I believe that’s what he said.” Seto muttered. It wasn’t too surprising that he didn’t like the boy talking about him as if he wasn’t even there.  His comment earned him a scowl from the blonde.

“I don’t know, Yuug, he still acts the same.” The blonde boy grumbled, glaring at him. “How do you know he isn’t just pulling some kind of stunt to get himself more attention?”

Yuugi scowled at that, smacking the blonde’s arm, much to Seto’s satisfaction.

“Jou, you know Seto-kun wouldn’t pull something like that. And he would never to anything to hurt Mokuba.” The smaller boy insisted. Seto looked at him intently, mulling things over in his somewhat muddled mind. He had to wonder just what was going on between himself and the small boy, especially when it made the boy’s friend so protective of him, and so… unfriendly towards Seto himself.

“Yeah, well, you go ahead and think that Yuugi, but I wouldn’t put it past him.” The blonde boy grumbled, shooting Kaiba another glare.

Seto glared right back at him.

Yuugi cleared his throat at that, obviously looking very torn between the two, and Jou backed down, though didn’t look the slightest bit mollified.

Yuugi held his breath as he watched Jou leave the room, his chest constricting slightly from the emotions warring out inside of him. He wished Jounouchi hadn’t had to make such a fuss of things, even more so now since it would probably encourage Seto to ask more questions. Questions Yuugi wasn’t sure he was ready to answer. He sighed a little and turned back to Seto who was watching him with a blank gaze that Yuugi was more than a little familiar with it. Yuugi had dubbed it his ‘I want to know what the hell is going on, and I want to know it now’ stare.

He fidgeted lightly under that intense stare and offered the other an apologetic smile, though it was strained.

“Anou… I’m sorry about Jounouchi. He can be a little… overzealous at times.” He offered lamely, not looking directly at his former lover’s intense gaze. He wondered absently if Seto knew what kind of affect that stare had on him. It was nearly enough to make his knees buckle beneath him.

“So I noticed.” Came the brunette’s sardonic reply. Much to Yuugi’s relief, he didn’t follow it up with any questions, though he knew that the other probably had them in spades. Still… he just hoped that Seto kept them to himself,  since he didn’t look forward to one of his interrogations. If Seto turned that heated stare on him and started demanding answers, Yuugi didn’t think he’d be able to keep from spilling his guts to him.

Not for the first time, Yuugi wondered how he was going to survive the next two weeks.
