Okay. The song—Hikari to Yami no Tenshi—AKA Seto and Yugi’s duet—is mine so no stealing!
Dai-na: Wow, got this one done quickly. I wonder if I rushed it.
Yami: This one wasn’t a lemon either! Of course you rushed it!
Dai-na: I’m sorry, I’m sorry!!!! I used all of my lemon material on AEN. Next chapter, I promise.
Yami: Good….
Dai-na:……………yare yare…………………
Seto got halfway through a proposal for a new Duel Monsters VR game when he finally admitted to himself that he hadn’t processed a word of what he’d supposedly been reading. He was too focused on his absent lovers to even feign concern over his business. A part of knew that he was being foolish. That this company was his creation. He’d taken something that had been his father’s and turned it into something that was his, in more than just title. He had an obligation to this company. He kept it flourishing, and it kept Mokuba clothed, fed, and never wont for anything except for the attention of his brother.
Some sacrifices were necessary. Seto wondered if Mokuba understood that.
Seto wondered if Mokuba cared.
He had the feeling that his little brother would be happier living on the street, starving as long as they were together than he would in a huge mansion with a full belly, all by himself.
With a twinge of guilt Seto wondered if maybe he should alter his work schedule. Shift some of the more mundane, less crucial work off over onto some of his subordinates. They would certainly appreciate the extra work, as long as it came with a nice extra bonus. Something he could easily afford.
The more he thought about the idea, the more he liked it. Cut a few hours off on what he worked daily; maybe take one or two weekends off every month. He would have more time to spend with Mokuba, and more time to spend with Yugi and Yami.
Realizing that his thoughts had come full circled and were once again settled on his loves, he made a grab for the phone, dialing the number of the game shop.
Maybe if he talked to them for a few minutes, he might get something done.
He let the phone ring a few time, frowning when know one answered.
Where were they?
Yugi hadn’t mentioned them having any plans. Had they just gone out for a walk? Or maybe shopping? His min ran over the millions of logical things that they could be doing but he just couldn’t fight against his own self-doubt.
Maybe they had given up on him; decided that he wasn’t worth the trouble. Why wouldn’t they? They were two of the most incredible creatures he had ever seen. Like to seraphs that had fallen from heaven and he… he was nothing but a mangy stray who had been hidden behind some fancy grooming. They had probably gotten one good look at the mutt beneath the polish and headed for the hills.
He fought back against the cloud of darkness that threatened to engulf him, fought off the wave of anguish at the thought of once again being alone and desperately clung to the small voice in the back of his mind, the tiny light that sounded like Yugi, telling him that he wasn’t worthless and they loved him truly, loved him, not his polish or his wealth, but the battered whelp that lay beneath, too scared to believe that he had a chance.
Kaori looked up from her desk when the two spike-haired boys stepped out of the elevator. She blinked her eyes rapidly to make sure she wasn’t seeing double.
The small, wide-eyed one came up to the desk and she had to struggle not to go’ awww’. The taller, darker one approached and she had to struggle not to melt. The little one batted his wide eyes innocently.
“We came to see Seto. Is he busy?”
Kaori blinked rapidly.
‘Seto’? She’d always known her boss’ name but she’d never actually heard anyone call him by it. She couldn’t help smiling down at the little one as something occurred to her.
“Are you two the reason he’s been so spacey today?”
Yugi blinked up at her, confused.
“Spacey?” He asked
She nodded sagely.
“Yep, he’s definitely out of it. I took him some coffee a little while ago and he was still reading the same page of the same business proposal that he started on when he came in.”
Both boys looked startled by this.
“Maybe it’s a fascinating page?” Yugi offered pathetically. Not one of them bought it.
“It has three sentences on it.” Shaking his head, Yami looked up at the young assistant.
“Can you find out if he’ll accept visitors?” He asked, a subdued note in his normally edgy tone. The young woman smiled at him.
“Sure thing Sugar, just gimme a sec and I’ll find out.” She said with a wink. Yugi tried hopelessly not to laugh as he turned a bright scarlet.
Seto jolted out of his depression when the buzzer on the intercom went off. He considered ignoring it but decided that a distraction might help,
He pressed the button
“What is it, Kaori?” He asked. Did his voice actually sound as worn as it did to him? He wondered.
“You have two visitors, Sir.” She told him, the amusement evident in her voice. Seto’s heart sped up.
“Send them in.” was all he said.
He sat down behind his desk, trying to maintain a neutral expression as they came in. Yami shut the door behind them and they both looked at him expectantly.
He merely lifted an inquisitive eyebrow, afraid that if he said something it would betray the emotions that he was trying to contain. As it was he was struggling not to smile out right.
Yugi took a tentative step forward.
His eyes blinked once.
Twice.
And Seto melted, letting himself grin like an idiot.
The smaller boy beamed and launched himself across the room. Seto stood in time to have the small boy knock him backwards, nearly sending him back into his chair. Yugi hugged him tightly then looked up at him with big sparkly eyes.
“Hi.” The small comment drew a laugh from Seto and he responded in kind.
“Hi. What are you two doing here?”
Yugi looked at him liked he’d just asked the stupidest question in the world.
“We missed you, of course. Didn’t you miss us?” He asked with a pout. The sincerely spoken words seemed to fill a hollow void and he felt like a heel for having doubted them. He disguised a playful glint in his eyes as he pretended to consider it.
“Actually, I have been pretty busy, I didn’t really give it that much thought.”
With a smirk, Yami lifted the VR proposal off the desk, scanning the page.
“Right, cause these three and a half lines are so crucial.” He said, the sarcasm oozing from his voice.
Yami handed him the file, ignoring Seto’s look of mock annoyance and sat down on the couch that was against the side wall.
Seto turned back to the still pouting Yugi, placing an affectionate kiss on his nose.
“Of course I missed you. Why do you think I haven’t gotten any work done? It seems I can no longer think when you two aren’t around.”
Yugi gave him a bright smile that wasn’t nearly as innocent as his wide eyes led on.
“Well then, I guess you’ll have to keep us around all the time then, won’t you?” Seto smirked and wrapped an arm around the small boy’s waist, drawing him over towards the couch. Seto stretched out across it, laying his head on Yami’s lap and Yugi sat down beside the couch, Seto’s hand toying with his hair.
You’re the stars
that shine so bright
That light the way
for me
You’re the shadows
in my heart
The love that’s
tearing me apart
When I dream of
how it could be
Please my angel;
come to me
I’m dreaming of
you helplessly
I’m alone and
cannot find my way
Wait by my side so
patiently
Until I find the
words to say…
Yugi sighed contentedly as Seto absently combed his fingers through his hair while reading over the report he’d been neglecting. The entire room was silent and none of them felt any desire to break the tranquil atmosphere. Yugi let his eyes drift shut. Just being here in the room with Seto had put him at ease, leaving no remnants of his previous anxious mood.
He had a feeling that he’d be exactly the same way if he were ever separated from Yami.
Somehow Seto had become just as much apart of him as his dark other. He marveled at how quickly it had happened. He didn’t let it concern him though. He knew that what he felt between the three of them was right and time didn’t factor into it. Thought it was sort of confusing and hazy he delighted in it.
Yami stoically studied his two loves as he stroked Seto’s
hair. He was amazed at how easy it felt to just be here with them. Contentment
washed over him in gentle waves and he felt his mind drifting back to his past,
how he’d always felt on edge and tense except in the presence of a one young
priest with chestnut colored hair and ice blue eyes. The one person in his
entire court who was most likely to put a knife in his back. He wondered
vaguely if Seto had any memories of that. He didn’t think so. If he did he gave
no hint about it.
I’m hiding here
for you to find
To free me from my
destiny
My lonely heart is
aching, Dear
Please stay with
me, forever near
To soothe away my
misery
Please my angel;
come to me
I’m dreaming of
you endlessly
I’m alone and
cannot find my way
My darling angel;
stay with my
Until the day say
to you…
Finished reviewing the report, Seto set it aside and closed his eyes. Basking in the feel of having the two others with him. Yami’s fingers were now stroking his cheek softly and his own fingers still lay twined in Yugi’s hair, the silky strands feeling wonderful against his skin.
He felt himself drifting but didn’t mind. He fell asleep like that; his head cradled Yami’s lap and his fingers wrapped in Yugi’s hair.
The two spike-haired boy’s shared a smile and made themselves comfortable, watching him as he slept.
