*** Finding Your Style***
I cannot control ads (if any) sorry!
Before I say anything else, I want to say this...RELAX about finding your style. I "found my style" the first year I homeschooled and quickly "lost it"! So I picked up another style and soon lost it, too! I am now an "eclectic" homeschooler, but that too may change! That's the beauty of home schooling...we can change with our knowledge and experience. We can branch out, test the waters and come safely home to what we are comfortable with! So, where do we start? Let's talk about your goals. No, not that list of New Year's Resolutions we've made (over and over again). What I mean by goals is...what is important to you? Why did you decide to (or are you considering) homeschooling your children? What is the main reason? It's a personal question. The answer is different for many families. But that is your starting point. Now, what can you do to see that your children experience whatever it is you feel is important? I'll give you an example... PARENT "A" wants her child to be confident and well socialized. Then focus on character building studies with a possible co-op or support group for practicing. PARENT "B" wants his child to be well-versed in classical literature and logic. Then focus on this, maybe using a Classical Trivium approach. PARENT "C" wants her child to pass the 3rd grade. Then find a book like "What Every Child Needs to Know When" and go to the library! PARENT "D" wants to discover mothering and teaching as a combo package! Then consider Charlotte Mason and her insights on education! and on and on and on..... You see, there is SO much out there to help. And SO many angles to come from. Find out what's important to you and go for it! There are plenty of resources out there and plenty of links to get you started! One link leads to another so here's a good place to start: www.heri.net. HERI stands for Home Education Resources and Information. Check out their links and you'll be in cyberspace for awhile! I encourage you to relax and enjoy the journey with your children. Speaking of which, I think I'll go read a book about Thomas Edison to my loves! Happy Homeschooling!
