| FAQ: What is stomp? Stomp is creating music out of garbage and items you normally wouldn't think could be musical instruments How do I read my rhythm charts? can you count to four? over and over again? on beat? good, now between each number say "and" (ex: one and two and...) now, between the # and the & say "eee" and between the & and the next #, say "Uhh" (ex: one ee and uhh two, or 1e&a2) now, on your charts, some symbols are blue. If they are blue, that means you hit something on that count and you rest on the black symbols. when learning them, go slow and count out loud AND count in rhythm Do I need rhythm/talent to play stomp? The bad news is yes, you need both because they are critical in making music (as well as PRACTICING) ...but, the good news is everyone has rhythm and everyone has talent, you may just not know it. If you have ever clapped, tapped your foot, nodded your head, or danced to music, you were tapping into a force we call rhythm, and understanding rhythm is talent...! When do we practice? Lucy is mostly in charge of that, I think we are going to aim for thursday or friday after school. also, if you have any time to yourself, it would behoove you to at least learn your own rhythms What if i'm not signed up? Lucy is in charge of that too. talk to her. |

| Hello, my name is Master Dave VerLee and I am your director, as well as the apointed Stomp arranger. You may use this web site to learn your parts and pieces. I have MIDI clips of each rhythm in case you need to listen to them. I am also available if you need extra help. My email address is at [email protected] and my phone # is (847) 680 8996 | |||||||||||||||
| Note: about the midi clips- the rhythm is played by the snare drum. it is mapped over a metronome that dings on beat 1 and clicks on beats 2,3, and 4. (hear it) Don't let it confuse you. you only play what the snare plays. the down beats are to help you find out where off beats go. | |||||||||||||||

| You will be in a section (1-5) in which all of you are playing things that sound the same (ex: Basses all play buckets, tenors play pipes, etc) You can click on your section's link to learn your section's rhythms. Everyone in your section will be playing the same thing, but not necesarily the same instrument. |
