The Cavern of Shadow is home to Eona Valley's creatures of the Dark Below. It is populated by Goblins, Orcs, Cave Trolls, Grimlocks, and many other underground dwellers. It is rumored that the deepest reaches of the Cavern are home to the Drow, but this has never been successfully confirmed. Most of these creatures have a strong hatred for surface dwellers and many would-be explorers have entered the Cavern's depths and never returned. The tress in the area around the entrance to the Cavern and those leading to it have been blackened by some event in the distant past; an event that is remembered by none but the Wisdom Tree. The blackened trees serve as a warning to the residents of Eona Valley that they are getting close to the Cavern of Shadow. For obvious reasons, the vicinity of the Cavern is a place most surface dwellers would prefer to avoid.
Currently, a creature known as Azzumoth has made his lair inside the Cavern. Azzumoth is a Nosferatu Master and his undead minions are terrorizing the residents of the Valley, both above ground and below. There is currently a group of would-be heroes forming at the Gateway Inn with the intention of confronting Azzumoth and his minions and ridding Eona Valley of his evil taint. Noone would have ever thought that something worse than the Cavern of Shadow's normal denizens would plague the Valley, but even the Orcs, Goblins, etc. are preferable to this demon-spawn.
