Everyone admires the beautiful coats on the Old English Sheepdog and anyone can learn to make their Old English Sheepdog look the same.

For ease, puppies should be taught to stay on a grooming table.  Lift the pup up and not leave them unattended. When they are big enough they can be taught to either place their paws up on the table and you can lift them the rest of the way or if the table is sturdy and non slip teach them to jump up and save your back, however we do not encourage them to ever jump down.

As a pup teach them to enjoy their grooming sessions, teach them to stand, lie down on both sides.  Once they get used to the idea you will soon find your Old English Sheepdog dozing off while your brushing.

Remember be firm, gentle and patient, give your Old English Sheepdog lots of tender loving care and you will be rewarded by the fruits of your labour.

Of course you do not have to keep your Old English Sheepdog in full coat, many prefer the cute looking 'bear' or 'puppy' clip as seen here on Australian Champion Gateview Truly Scrumshus.

More comprehensive grooming instruction and assistance will be given with your puppy. We found this informative link on grooming the Old English Sheepdog which also might be of assistance.

The Old English Sheepdog is a working breed and a large dog and as such time should be spent whilst they are young having regular training sessions.

Your puppy should be taught at least the basics of sit, drop, stand, stay and the critical 'come' command. Not only can you form a great bond with your friend, other activities such as obedience, agility, flyball and herding can be both rewarding and challenging - oh and lets not forget lots of fun for both you and your mate!
