WHO WE ARE:
Like the Barbers, the Gates aim to use football and other sports to reach higher aims. The twins are currently seniors at Newark Memorial High School in Newark, California. The boys started their football experience by playing football for San Jose PAL Union City Colts in Union City, California. During those years they were coached by former San Jose SaberCat player Ward Farris and ex-49er Hall of Famer Willie Harper.
Veterans of eight plus seasons, the boys� assisted their team the Newark Memorial Varsity Cougars with a 7-3 record during the 2006 MVAL Football Season .
This was the twins first year at Newark Memorial High School. Newark Memorial Cougar's previous season record was 0-10. During their freshman and sophomore years the Gates Boys' attended St. Francis High School where their father, former prep star Michael Gates and uncles, former football greats; Tyrese and Tyrone Gates set a presence of superior athletic ability .
The Gates Twins play baseball, basketball, wrestling and track; but they love to play, watch, talk and sleep football.
The Gates Twins, who stand and weigh an approximately 6�2� and 175 pounds each intends to strive hard both academically and athletically to achieve their goal of attending a four (4) year college after they graduate in Class of 2008.
(According to NFL.com, the league official website, there have been eight other pairs of twins in the NFL before the Barbers. Only the originals, Tom and Gene Golsen, played as teammates for the 1926 Louisville Colonels. The latest pair to come close was in 2001 when, Evan and Ethan Howell, another running back/defensive back combo, who played in NFL Europe together )
