Departure (Seperation)

The Ordinary World: John is with his father and his brothers among the Hill People.

Call to Adventure: John tells his dream to his father and his father sends him on his rites of passage journey.

Refusal of the Call: John doesn't want to go because it is forbidden.

Supernatural Aid: His father gives him a bow and three arrows.

Crossing the Threshold: He crosses the Ou-Dis-Sun (Hudson) River in his raft.

In the Belly of the Whale: John crosses the river, then enters into the Palace of the Gods (New York City).

Initiaion

The Road of Trials: John is chased by a pack of wild dogs and seeks refuge in a building.  Inside the building he marvels at the amazing items the gods' possessed.

The Meeting with the Goddess: John hallucinates and sees the image of New York City as it was in the past (our present) and the harmony and bustle of how it was before being destroyed and burned.

The Woman as the Temptress: John breaks down and begins to cry after seeing the fate of the people of New York.  The next morning he wakes and is perplexed and confused.

Atonement with the Father: John sees the "dead god" and realizes that he was not a god, but just a normal man like him.  This goes against everything he had ever learned from his father, and he realizes that he is now his own man.

Apotheosis: John states that he no longer fears going home and realizes that his journey has ended and he has become his own man.

The Ultimate Boon: John completes his rite of passage and gets to return home to the Hill people.

Return

Refusal of the Return: None.

Magic in Flight (The Chase): On the return trip, John is attacked by dogs several times and stalked by Forest People.

Rescue from Without: None.

Crossing the Return Threshold: He returns to his Father and tells his father that he had broken the laws.

Master of Two Worlds: He realizes that the gods were only humans and that one day he will replace his father as Head Priest, but must keep the knowledge he has gained secret.

Freedom to Live: John tells that one day he will become the Head Priest and return to New York with a company of people and re-settle there.
