The Magna Carta will effect the future of government in England because of the simple idea that a King, or any ruler, can have absolute power.  Since the year 1215 when the Magna Carta was signed by King John, there has never been a leader in England that has ruled without being punished for illegal offenses.  It also gave rise to the formation of a “great council.”  It was formed as a body to prevent the King from raising unnecessary taxes and any royal spending.  This council later gave way to the development of the English parliament, which served as a model for the United States senate and is still in place in the current English democratic system.
