Liberation Theology

'By the mingling of this water and wine may we come to share
in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.'
Liberation theology is about life before death. It is a dirty theology that comes from the life experience of the poorest, most oppressed people on Earth. There is no place here for the detached highly respected academics in their universities and colleges eating three square meals a day. It is about people who die of starvation, whose voice is ignored. People who sleep on sacks in tin huts. The liberation theologian wishes to rebuild Eden in what, for many, is hell.
There are a number of distinct areas in liberation theology. These seek to deal with such things a poverty, the human sexual condition, feminism, ecology, world suffering, the place of animals and now youth ministry.

Some quotations
'I would rather submit to the worst of deaths, so far as pain goes, than have a single dog or cat tortured on the pretence of saving me a twinge or two' - Robert Browning
' It is black magic, which, in order to cure a patient, first transfers his complaint to an innocent victim. He who accepts health at such a cost shall but save it to lose it.' - Dr Anna Kingsford
Some words from the Prophets
What care I for the number of your sacrifices? says the LORD. I have had enough of whole-burnt rams and fat of fatlings; In the blood of calves, lambs and goats I find no pleasure. - Isaiah 1. 11
Merely slaughtering an ox is like slaying a man; sacrificing a lamb, like breaking a dog's neck - Isaiah 66. 3.
For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than holocausts. - Hosea 6. 6.
