Heritage Mapping
The Gaspésian CEDEC is mapping English heritage sites using
geographical information systems (GIS) and creating a database of
historical places, people, and events, linked geographically throughout
the region by postal codes. The goal is to create awareness of the
potential of our history and culture as a tourism development opportunity and
explore potential partnerships to move it forward.
New Carlisle Senior's Complex
Background:
Stemming from a survey of New Carlisle citizens done in the spring of 2002 a great
interest has been identified to develop a seniors complex in the town of New Carlisle.
As a result of this, a group of local people has come together to look at the possibility
of developing such a complex within the community.
The Steering Committee:
The group consisting of 10 local citizens has been meeting since the fall of 2002, in order to develop
a strategic approach to such a project. Some exploration has been done to look at like installations
elsewhere and to sit down with the individuals responsible for developing these other centres.
Vision:
The vision is to create a complex containing 25 units, a mixture of single rooms
with kitchenette, and double apts. The complex will target residents between Bonaventure
East and Shigawake, ages 60 and over, or with some loss of autonomy. (Data compiled shows
a potential of 2180 clients.) In a secure, peaceful setting, the client will have access to
local amenities. The centre will offer meals, laundry service, housekeeping, as well as beauty
care. There will be facilities for activities, pastimes, and hobbies to ensure the clients comfort.
How can you help?
By being represented on the committee your organization or group can help ensure that all
members of the community have a say about the development of such a complex. Also we will
be partnering with various government agencies to make this project possible, by showing
a strong cohesive community this will lend weight to any proposal put forth by the
committee.
For more information about how to become involved in the committee please contact the
Gaspésian CEDEC.
Your involvement and input is key to the success of this initiative!
