Permanent Working Groups

After the first full year of operation for four Permanent Working Groups (PWGs), innovative ideas are beginning to evolve between them. New tools and approaches are being created to complement and enhance the CEDECs work in the communities. These groups were created to provide advice with regards to this initiative's four strategic orientations: Community Capacity-building, Communications, Youth and Job Creation and Economic Diversification. In the context of its specific orientation, each Permanent Working Group provides leadership, knowledge and resources to the NHRDCELM and the individual CEDECs.

Community Capacity-building

Highlights among this working group's achievements include a unique Learning Needs Assessment Tool that helps community members realize the knowledge and skills they have and those they require. A tool for mentoring was produced to assist in the community capacity-building process as well as a Community Asset Mapping Guide.

Youth

This working group has moved towards developing activities to improve the level of engagement that English-speaking youth have in their communities. This working group has also established a focus on improving access for youth to the necessary tools for finding employment in their own region and increasing their participation in their communities' development.

Communications

This working group focused upon strengthening communication channels and identifying key audiences within the English-speaking Community. Considerable effort has gone into communicating the importance of life skills that exist in the communities. The working group also provided analysis and tools on improving connectivity between CEDECs and PWGs.

Job Creation and Economic  Diversification

This working group focused on entrepreneurship, with the development of a pilot workshop, toolkit and concepts for use on this topic in the community. The working group has also begun to work with the communications PWG in the recognition of life skills and reinforcing the beliefs that communities have the capacity and capabilities required to take charge of their development.
