Doors off mirrors!!
Ever feel like an Owl when your driving your Jeep with the doors off?? Well I have!! :-) That is what pushed me to find a way to mount mirrors when the doors are off. I have seen plenty of "relocation brackets" out there but I don't want to take the mirrors off my doors. Plus I have read it puts the mirror in a hard to use place. So in my search for a solution I found a web page that gave me the idea for these mirrors.
Not as simple to build but I think alot nicer and stronger so this is what I came up with. I used the same mounting idea but changed the overall bracket. The brackets I made up with alittle help from a friend (mounted the mirror vertically) which I think had a better overall look. The were made of 1" x 1/4" flat bar stock. The had to be heated with a acetlylene torch inorder to make the smooth bends in them. The design I came up with(not to shabby eh) was to give them that aggressive off-road look.
I cut a notch with a wiz wheel to better center the bolt in the bracket. It gave it a smoother transition between bracket and door hinge when mounted.
The bolt was then welded to the bracket. Using a wire feed welder. (My friend Alan did a nice job welding them)
