Finds from Papua New Guinea
I would like to thank Henry,
for sending me this wonderful picture
of his finds from Papua New Guinea.
over seven hundred coins
plus lots of WW2 finds.
Well done mate and HH

Gary,
Glad you liked the pic, yep few know about PNG and some confuse
us with Guinea Bissau in africa!.
PNG is that big Island hovering above Australia and
was administered by Australia till 1975.
Jap advance turned back 30 miles outside Port Moresby (capital)
where i live/search in Aug-Sept 42.
I Search around former airfeilds, camps, hospitals
and fortifications 1-10 miles inland.
Moresby is located in what is called a rain shadow due to nearby
mountain ranges with below average rainfall in the wet season.
As a result the vegetation is scrub and not rain forest
which makes searching possible in the dry season
when the annual bush fires clear the landscape.
As far as detecting laws go there are none,
as this is a developing country so pretty much anything goes.
There are though laws against removing certain material
without a permit out of the country
but that applies to the big stuff ie: Planes,
Weapons and suchlike.
If you decide to post add any info you want,
including address for feedback.
I should also explain the reason for mutilated coins in pic.
Due to the high silver content (92.5%) in Aust coins
the yanks seemed to enjoy making rings,
bracelets, charms/pendants out of them.
I have read one account of boxes of newly minted coins
flown in by u.s authorities for "recreational purposes" outlined above.
This pic is of latest season finds-coins mostly australian
florin half/one pennies,6/3pences and 1 yank quarter.
The "dogtags" at top are australian(Octagonal+Circular worn as a set)
and Yanks on the right.
all the Best
