These double looped buckles Are so-called because their shape resembles a pair of spectacles. The small one is an early type as it is very plain and crudely cast it was found on a Saxon site This one is broken in half and also crudely cast so I think it could be 16th 17 th century As the style evolved the points of the buckles became more decorative.
