Castle Front

At the start of this level, you are standing in front of a castle. A torch with a lion head stands across the courtyard from you. There are two methods for entering the castle. Since there is little difference, I will explain the main method. If you want to enter from the window on the left, you an find your way to the inner area and follow the directions from there.

From the courtyard...

In order to get the cook to open the door, you must put out the torch with a water arrow. Then go to your left up the stairs, which you can see on the left side of this picture if you look closely. Continue along the walkway around the edge of the courtyard to the open door, which is on the right side of this picture. You will walk down a long, narrow hallway to a room with bunk beds. Make sure to grab the health potion on the way in.

From the barracks...

To your left are two doors. Take the first door that leads to a long hall. There are two guards there. One patrols the hall, and the other stays off to the right. The one on the right shouldn't see you if you move slowly. As you go down the hall, knock out the guard patrolling. Keep in mind that he will see your shadow if he gets far enough down. Once you get to the opposite end of the hall, you will see a statue. Turn right there, and right again. Then you can see the stairs in the next room.

From the stairs...

There is a guard past the doorway to the right, and one on the stairs. There are several ways to get rid of the guard. The most straightforward is to wait for him to stop at the base. Then, when he starts back up, sneak up behind him and knock him out. Proceed up the stairs until you reach a room. When you get into the room, you may see a civilian standing at the opposite end. Go to the other side of the room. Don't bother following him down the hall, unless you want more treasure. Instead, go through the door and go along the walkway to the blue fog. This leads to the inner quarter.

From the inner quarter...

After the walkway, you will find yourself above the inner courtyard. There is a plank platform running most of the way around the courtyard. Ahead of you are some stairs going up to a hall in front of you, and some stairs leading down to the right. Go down those stairs. Go through the archway, left, continue to the wall, then turn right. Keep going to the end with the door and go through the door. Once inside, turn right. You will see a guard holding a torch. Knock him out before he can cause you trouble. Then go to the locked door and unlock it. You have found Lord Ember's chambers.

From Lord Ember's chambers...

There is some loot on the table, and more off to the right. You don't care about that. You are more interested in Lord Ember who stands in front of the fireplace. You can get him from behind if you stand off to the left of the fireplace. There are some good shadows there. Once you have cleaned up your mess, get the special treasure from the mantle and go to the right where there is a burnt out torch. Turn it to open the portcullis. Then go back out to the hall.

From the hall...

Instead of going back out the door you came in, go forward through the archway. Past that you will see stairs going up. Continue up the stairs, through a locked door, then up more stairs. In the room at the top, you see a treasure chest at the foot of the bed. open it to get the special loot. Then go back down the stairs and out the door to the courtyard.

From the courtyard...

Instead of going back the way you came, go forward until you see an elevator. Then go down to the first floor. There is a guard out there, but if you move quickly, you can find some darkness as cover. There is a door in front of you. Don't go through it. Instead, go right and around the corner. You will see a locked door. Go in here. There is some treasure here. You can wander around and find it yourself. When you finish, come back to this door. Then go left to the far side of the courtyard. There is a guard here, too. Either keep out of his way or do him in. Then go through the archway that leads to the long hall. At the end of the hall is blue fog. This leads to the castle front.

From the castle front...

Go down the hall. There is a well lit room with a portrait directly in front of you. Go through this door and off to the right. Get rid of the civilian here and go to the large room. There is a guard at his post off in the distance. Get past him by keeping in the shadows on the right. You will have to get rid of him eventually, so now might be a good time. Once you've gotten rid of the evidence, go down the stairs and go through the door with the open portcullis. If the portcullis is not open, go back and read the part about operating the burnt out torch in Lord Ember's chambers. Get the opal to complete your objectives. Go back up the stairs to the guard's post. Turn right, then left, and unlock the door. There is a room here with a guard off to the right who is looking out the window. Go to the left to a small office. On your right, you will see a window. Climb out this window and head to the front of the yard. Move to the main gate to leave.
