| On the 23rd of October 1996 the Battleship HMNZS Ohakea was launched on the Rangitikie River just north of the RNZAF Base Ohakea shipyards. | ||||||||||||||||

| Later that same day the crew were dismayed to discover that HMNZS Ohakea was in fact a submarine and as the torpedo bay doors had not been secured it went down with all hands. | ||||||||||||||||
