Remember the first names that we found in Bucknall; John, James, Ann, Joseph, Sampson, they were always on our minds. One day we found ourselves looking at the names again; John, Ann, James, Sampson, Joseph, and even George CORDON! From Ipstones! Could it be the family we were looking for, we took a closer look. John Cordon, the father, was born in 1708, at Ipstones and his wife was Ann Thawley, also born in Ipstones. Their children, James, Ann, George, Sampson and Joseph were born from 1724 onwards, the last being Joseph in 1740. This family seemed to vanish from Ipstones after this last birth, and we then have our John Cordall/Cauden's birth in about 1745! As I have said, we can't prove anything, but I think it highly likely that our Cordall family are descendants of the Cordons of Ipstones. Imagine John Cordon, named after his father, getting married at Bucknall to Ann Pyatt. The vicar had not encountered the name before, so he wrote....."John Cauden".....!? Was that the start of it all? Had we done it? We can't be sure but once again we were in the grip of curiosity, and we had to go on....or go back! We weren't sure which way we were going, in fact, we were so far back by now that I was really worried about Charlie, our dog, would he live long enough to see us again?
