In May 1999 we had a family holiday in Orlando, Florida. We spent 14 days going to the various theme parks as well as travelling to both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. The photos on this page show some of the things we did and we have also tried to put links to interesting sites and hopefully useful sources of information.

Mel and the kids outside the American Pavillion at Epcot on the first day of our holiday. Epcot is a wonderful park but can be very tiring (especially if you try and do it all in one day!) as it covers a large area. It comprises of two areas, one based on technology, the other on different parts of the world and their cultures. The fireworks and laser show just before the park closes are stunning.
Greg, Helen and Jack at one of the numerous water features throughout the park, the dancing water fountains are popular with the kids and are a useful way of keeping everyone cool.
This picture was taken in the dolphin stadium at Seaworld which is situated between Orlando and Disney World. As well as the dolphin stadium there is a larger stadium where the killer whales or Shamus perform. Seaworld is more relaxing than the other parks and is predominantly made up of shows throughout the day, there are a few rides mostly with a water theme.
This is a picture of one of the most beautiful parts of the Disney World complex, Typhoon Lagoon. This is one of three themed water parks, the others being Blizzard Beach and River Country. Typhoon Lagoon is themed on a desert island and has one of the largest wave machines in the world as well as loads of thrilling water slides. One of the most exciting things is swimming in a large themed tank with numerous small sharks and rays.
About an hours drive from Orlando is the Kennedy Space Centre, a large complex which allows visitors the chance to walk around rockets and watch a variety of films based around man's exploration of space. We spent half a day there as small children may find it slightly boring, it is however on the Atlantic coast and therefore close to a number of popular surfing beaches. The one we visited Cocoa Beach was quite attractive and appeared to offer safe swimming for all ages.
