Captain Hugh Jack Lewis, USAF

    Project Blue Book Officer
Hugh Jack Lewis
was one of the most interesting men I have ever known.
You will see why later...

Hugh was born in Maryland and raised in the Silver Spring, Maryland area. He was sent off to college by his father, who paid for his education that resulted in a business degree, and later a Master's in business.

After school, Hugh joined the Air Force, hoping to be a flyer, but his eyes were not good enough for flight training and he washed out. That was a big disappointment to him, as he had dreamed of becoming a flyer. But in time, he was promoted to captain and then given the assignment of "Project Blue Book" officer.

For those who are not familiar with Project Bluebook, it was created after the Ufo "phenomenon" began in this country in the 40s.. it was an investigatory function under the purview of the U.S. Air Force; officers were assigned to cover specific geographic areas of the U.S. and handle claims of sightings of unidentified aircraft and investigate and forward reports to higher authorities. During his several years as a Blue Book Officer, he said he was involved in one investigation that definately (in his opinion) involved an alien craft of some kind; basically, he saw it being analyized by a team of scientists- he being outside a room and peering through a glass window. He described it as being something totally unidentifiable and never did give me any further information about that case, but strongly believed it to be from another world.

When Hugh returned to civilian life after he and other officers were dismissed from service due to deletion of some positions, I met him on ham radio. He used to hold long conversatins with others interested in ufology, and K3IZM (Hugh's call sign) was well known to belong to the "guy who loved to discuss the mysteries of the universe."

I don't think he was ever happy after the Air Force days until he met Angie and they had a son, Robert. He also loved his two daughters from a previous marriage, and spoke fondly of them during the years he and I knew each other. During the mid-Seventies, if I recall right,  he worked at Radio Shack, drove a cab, then worked for several  radio stations. He took a job at one such station (I believe that occurred in the late 1980's) and there he met and fell in love with Angie. She was working there also, I believe- this was in southern Texas, near the boarder of Mexico. They eventually had Robert, and I was and am proud to have been named the boy's "Godfather," but guess what? It was an "unofficial" title, Hugh told me later. They were Jewish and I was not, but at least I was the boy's "almost" Godfather.

There is more to this story, and as time permits, I will work toward finishing it. At this moment in time, I am trying to locate his daughters, Amy and Dana, on behalf of Robert and his mother. If you could help, please contact me asap.
